in-line interview question

Question, does anyone know if the in-line interview is updated by the National Benefit Center or the local field office? I am not talking about the interview being scheduled as I believe that one is definitely updated by the local field office.

I'm not 100% certain, but my reasoning is telling me the NBC does it. I think after that they send the file on to the local office who then takes over from there and does the scheuling for the interview and oath.

NATURALIZATION
07-03-2013: Eligible to file
07-22-2013: Application sent (Delivered: 07-24-13)
08-05-2013: NOA1 received (Priority date: 07-24-13, Check cashed: 07-29-13)
08-22-2013: Biometrics (Received: 08-06-13, Walk-in: 08-08-13)
09-03-2013: Inline for interview (Yellow letter received: 10-23-13)
11-04-2013: Interview scheduled (Received: 11-09-13)
12-12-2013: Interview (Approved)
01-03-2014: Oath ceremony, passport application and passport received

DONE!

What does it mean exactly that you are in line for the interview, and how do you know whether you are or not?

It means you are stay "in-line" to be scheduled for your interview like there are people in front of you, but not physically there in line. You have to wait until they schedule you for your interview. Usually USCIS notifies you through case updates. I have not received mine yet, so I don't know if I will get case update or not ranting33va.gif

That's where we're at now "In Line". 1 day after biometrics, and we got a txt update that my wife was "In Line" for her interview. Thing we're trying to figure out is if we get an alert when they mail out the interview letter or will it just be sitting in the mail-box one day without any further warning.

I've read that people get sent an email, if they signed up for it, when the interview letter is mailed out and their case status is also updated online. Then people get the interview letter a few dates later in the mail.

Is there any possibility that one is in-line but never received update and simply got an interview letter? I'm getting paranoid as it's been little over 2 months since my filing date and no in-line update at all compared to most N400 filers.

I signed up for updates via text and email my son did not. We both filed the same day, had biometrics the same day and about 2 months after the biometrics I got a text and an email saying interview was scheduled, he did not as he hadn't signed up, but we both received interview letter the same day. So yes it is possible just to get the interview letter.

so you signed up but never got updates about "in-line" only when you were scheduled for interview?

I have had email and text updates for every stage so far, biometrics, in line and interview scheduled.

I thought the same as you that my file had been forgotten as other people were already citizens and I was still waiting for interview letter, but it is based on how busy your district office is, mine is Atlanta and they are fairly slow but others are slower. I believe it says on the online status if it has been more than 90 days since you were placed in line for interview that you should contact uscis. Once you get you letter you will probably still have a wait, my interview isn't until the,17th next month, but the best thing is that you know your file is not lost.
