hello. i recently got married in the philippines a few months ago and now i'm back inNJ to file for a petition. I know i have to go through the K3 visa process. i'm wondering if anybody would have an opinion on whether i should/need to hire an immigration attorney to handle all of this. i know their service fees are hefty but i also don't want to run the risk of any delays/denilas coz of stupid mistakes whetehr it be filling the forms or sending it out. also, is the step by step guide on filing for a k3 visa petition found on this website accurate? i just want to make sure. thanks!

Hi there,

I would just read the VJ guide for K3 applications....and you are good to go.

Ive seen now a lot of people that actually hired an attorney and they got really disappointed.

If you follow the guidelines in VJ,u should be fine.

My honest opinion is that u really just need a lawey for complex cases...

Good luck!

Welcome,

The guides on this site are very good. Most people who are comfortable filling out basic forms, who don't have a complicated situation are able to successfully navigate the process with the support of this site. If you're really not comfortable, maybe just try to have a consultation with a lawyer to see if he/she has anything useful to add. I'm not sure where to find one, but I know people on this site sometimes find cheap/free consultations, so it's worth looking around.

hi! i'm still in the process of my k3 visa applcation gettng approved... but i don't think you'll be neding a lawyer to help you out... well it depends on you though if you have a good amount of money to spend on... but as far as i'm concerned, as long as you read the instructions carefully and follow them... then you'll do good...

jwilson929,

No, you do not have to go through the K3 visa process.

A consultation with an immigration attorney to review the facts of your situation (and to dispell some of your false misunderstandings) is always a good investment. Then, based on what you learn, you'll be in a better position to decide if you want to go forward on your own or hire an attorney to handle the case for you.
