Hi all,

I was involved in helping a rebel group in my country against a brutal political regime that resorted to military action against peaceful civilians proteststing. My help involved only helping rebels but without direct engaging in the armed conflict. Of course I have to declare this in answer to the question :

"Have you ever served in, been a member of, or been involved with a paramilitary unit,
vigilante unit, rebel group, guerrilla group, or insurgent organization?"

Will this render me inadmissible since Homeland Security could very likely categorize tat as an act of terrorism????

Please someone give an opinion on this because I'm really very concerned that self defense might be taken as terrorist action.

Thanks

It won't make you inadmissible out right. The US funded the Libyan rebels so if that is what you are talking about the US was involved too.

They will do their investigation of the circumstances.

I think it depends on who was 'in power' in Libya at the time.

Help to overthrow Qadaffi, did you? Surely the Department of State will love you.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thank you both for your input. But guess what? On one of the US official sites it says "freedom fighters" are not exempt even if they are fighting against authoritarian regime! Yes right the US funded rebels but I am sure the murder of the US ambassador in Benghazi has changed the view twoard the rebels even though such horrible crime is so condemned by all Libyan people but limited number of stupid fundamentalists. I guess best policy would be to state facts as they are and be honest and if defending my family and self makes me a threat to them then I don't care.

well - remember - there's spots in the form to fill out, but

a well-written letter, explaining calendar dates, what, for whom, can be useful.

Of course, you might want to seek a legal opinion from an immigration attorney...

What the US government does and what you do should under most circumstances not be the same. I don't see this helping at all.
