K-1 VISA...HELP ME PLEASE!!!

OK my lawyer just relinquished his rights to our case, because he closed his firm down (BUMMER!!!), we already have filed the K-1 visa application, do you guys think I would need a lawyer for the rest of the processing of the application..do you think I would be able to finish it on my own...HELP ME...I'm so nervous now that I don't have any lawyer representation since he helped us so much to get the packet together?

Most people on this site don't use a lawyer.

I never even considered using a lawyer and I filed before I found this site.

Are you able to read and follow instructions?

Do you have any problems you foresee happening, like is your fiance a criminal, or has had problems with US immigration before?

@HARPA Timsah, oh Ok I didn't know..I grabbed a lawyer just to be sure, I'm definitely able to read and follow instructions, I work in a law firm, I'm just nervous...and no my fiance isn't a criminal and neither am I and we've never had immigration problems before....so I think I will be able to finish it, since the hard part to me is already done....

You do not need legal counsel for this process. It is DIY. I had no problems at all.

OK really!!! Thank you, this helps so much...I was a little frantic....are you approved...do you mind if I contact you for further help if I need it...we are still at the USCIS center and don't know where we will be going after that!!!

Are you studying the K-1 visa Guide and Flowchart, in the Guides Section, or no?

If no, then I beg of you - ask your immigration attorney to fill out yer timeline over at http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=166125 for his last act on your case.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

You can do it on your own smile.png Since you already filed the K1, just make sure all notices are sent to you. I'm not sure if having a lawyer file it for you means that he receives notices on your behalf too. We didn't use a lawyer so I dont know how much responsibility they actually have (hope I dont get hate posts if it sounds dumb hehe). Just making sure all bases are covered.

NO I wasn't studying it, but I will now...I think I've actually looked at it before and it's pretty simple...I talked to my attorney and he said the last thing he did was send the application out..and I do have receipt that they have it and we are currently getting security checks at the moment...WOOHOO

Ok thanks iammrsregi, yes all notices are being sent to me. we've only received NOA1 and I called last week and Alien number was changed, I talked to officer at USCIS and he said we are currently getting security checks done now..I definitely think I will be able to handle it since the hard part is over....just want it to be approved so bad!!! Thanks again
