I read somewhere that if you don't have your immunization records, it's best to take the shots prior to the medical exam.

The reason being is that it's cheaper.

I live in Italy and I could do it through the Social Health System.

Can someone confirm this?

Also, what vaccinations are required?

Thank you!smile.png

Yes, I'm in Japan and I have done my shots before my medical exams as it was also cheaper, then made sure that everything is updated on my vaccination record. I took the record with me when I went for medical exams, everything was accepted not a problem

My husband took his vaccination records plus the list of vaccinations required from immigration and went to see his own doctor about 2 weeks before his interview. His doctor gave him whatever shots he was missing, it was cheaper and he was able to do it in 2 visits instead of paying more and having them all the same day at the medical visiit at the embassy. Less painful too (imagine if you are missing a lot of immunizations and have to have all those shots in one day!). At the medical all he needed was the blood test and x-ray.

I would suggest calling the medical center in Naples and asking them. My husband only had the Antipolio and the Bivalente (tetanus) shots when he was younger and was not looking forward to doing all the rest. When he called they actually passed him to the doctor that does the medical exam and he said that because of his age (31) he would only have to do the MMR and another tetanus shot as his last one was more than 10 years ago.

He will be doing them here in Rome as they are free. My husband got his immunization records from the circoscrizione.

Do you happen to have the number in Naples that you called? Once we submit our I-130, we will call to verify. We have received the immunization records, but no MMR and tetanus is over 10 years ago, so probably a good idea to get those while we wait!

Grazie!

We called the Istituo Diagnotico Varelli direct at 081 767 2202

Can the vaccinations be done anywhere in Rome for free or by a special physician/clinic?

The vaccinations have to be done at the Centro Vaccinazione and you have to call to make an appointment. I know for sure that they do the MMR and the tetanus for free but not sure about the other ones. However, the MMR is 2 shots, one now and another after 3-4 months.

We called the doctor in Naples. He must've been in a bad mood bc he wouldn't answer any questions and he insisted to get all vaccinations there once the appointment is made.

Do you think we should make the appointment for the MMR now? Can't hurt to get it right? My husband's last tetanus was more than 10 years ago so he should probably get that as well.

Thanks.
