In the midwest, I feel I could survive on 4 USD a day but not the coasts. Chicken prices are much higher than SMR's number for instance.

all you got to do Is put on some just got up looking clothes and sneak in Hampton Inn. The have a rocking free breakfast buffet

You can also get a pizza and hotdog at Sams for under 4 bucks. It rocks

Indeed. You can't find a gallon of milk for $2.5 here. Or chicken for $2. Not happening. Not sure what vegetable aside from cabbage you could find for a buck a pound around here either. Bottom line, $4.50 a day would mean less than $100.00 a week for groceries for a family of three. I don't see how that's done in my neck of the woods unless you quit eating healthy food.

Yeah, it's bad. I'm spoiled when it comes to breads. It's the one thing I really, really miss about Germany. The goods in the bakeries. Nothing even close around here. Nothing.

I don't eat there for the bread, sillyheads.

You go there for cookies and pastries? Those are equally bad.

We have a German bakery near us and they have butter cake.

And other yums.

They have a strawberry and quark cheese pastry I like.

And more.

Not familiar with salads, are we?

100 bucks a week. That should be easy for three bucks

Store brands

Coupons

Sale items

We are two and our grocery budget is less

Wife usually saves 20 bucks or so with coupons every trip

Heck she goes to CVS and gets 40 bucks of stuff and they owe her money

If there is ever a feminine pad shortage or Pantene shampoo we are covered.

I am. I make those myself. All from scratch including the dressing. Better than anything you'll ever find anywhere.

I do as well, but if I'm in a pinch...love me some Panera Greek salad.

we spend maybe $300 bucks a month for the two of us We buy meat in bulk and freeze it in portions. We also have a few stores that sell fruits and veggies pretty inexpensively...

We have started buying a lot of organic/natural stuff. My husband loves his organic milk that costs $6 a gallon :P He can go through a jug in two to three days..

i dislike Panera Bread.. it is way overpriced for what you get. the sandwich was meh and the soup was far too salty..

I do coupons that are worth the hassle - $5 bucks off a $30 or $40 purchase. $10 off $50 and such. I don't fiddle with penny coupons. Not worth my time.

But buying healthy foods - fruits, vegetables and proteins - you don't get by with $100 a week for a family of three around here. You can get by on $100 or less but then you're looking at processed, canned and frozen foods which I totally resent. And no, I don't care that I spend more on groceries. Eating well and healthy is important to me and my family.

Never tried their salads. Tried their bread and it sucked. Tried their pastry and it sucked. Thinking that if Panera BREAD can't get the bread (or other baked goods) right why bother with anything else? Maybe they ought to think about a change of name - Panera Soup and Salad or something?
