Hi all,

I thought I had this clear in my mind but now I am confused  I told my husband that he should get his vaccinations now while he is waiting for his package from the consulate to arrive, (we are in the very early stages of applying for his visa, I am waiting for the fee bill to arrive for the AOS). He told me he checked with the physician who will be doing the medical for his visa and he told him to wait until he receive his packet from the consulate and once he receives the packet bring it to them and they will tell him what vaccinations he will need.

Now, going off of my experience and also in talking to friends who have brought their spouse or family members over to the US, they all told me to have him do it now since there may be shots that require a series of injections. I know when I went to Africa I had received a vaccination that was a series of shots that I had to wait a certain amount of time between shots. I am thinking if he puts this off until he gets word from the medical staff who give the medical exam then it will add time on to our wait. I went on I believe the state gov website where it lists all of the shots to be taken and I sent him the list. Are there any other people out there who know the answer to this problem? I would think you can get the shots while you wait and then when the time comes for your medical exam then present the proof to them and they will look it over and say your shots are in order and give you the medical exam.

Please help!!!!!

It makes me wonder if this doctor is hoping to get additional money by performing the vaccinations - the doctor should already know what vaccinations are required, it's standard. I've seen many people get their vaccinations done before the exam, as long as you have proof that you've had them done, then the civil surgeon should accept that.

My husband has had all his shots, but doesn't have proof, so he's just going to have the titre done beforehand to show that he has had them done.

OOps I did it again, I posted by accident...I think I still get to use the excuse that I am a newbie and don't know what I am doing  Anyway, for all those who are interested I went back online to look at the department of state visa section where I found the information on the vaccinations. Please see the below information:

Vaccination Requirements

In general, applicants for immigrant visas are required to have all of the following vaccinations:

Mumps

Measles

Rubella

Polio

Tetanus and diptheria toxoids

Pertussis

Influenza type B

Hepatitis B

Varicella

Pneumococcal

Bring your vaccination records to the immigrant visa medical examination, if you have them. The panel physician decides which vaccinations you will need, appropriate to your age, medical condition and medical history.

Sounds to me like you can get the shots in advance and take them to the medical exam but if you want to wait also you can do that. But it still doesn't address the question as to whether waiting until the medical exam will put you behind schedule if you have to have a shot that requires you to wait in between the next shot. I sent this to my husband and I am hoping that he will get the shots right now and not wait! MEN!!!!!! Gotta love him though :luv:

I know that those who enter on K1 or K3 and Adjust Status just have to have the shots done before the Adjustment of Status (interview time I think)... that's why I'm more confused about the IR/CR1 route, as your husband would enter with a Green Card, and not adjust status. I'll try to take I look and see what I find for future reference :)

I just had my medical and before I got the packet 3. I had proof of infant immunisation for most things and he ordered a blood test to check immunity for those I didn't have proof of eg, I had chicken pox when I was a child but had no proof as they destroy medical records in the state I lived after 7yrs.

Anyway, my doctor said he will tell me what i need when he gets the test back and he needs the case number from packet 3. He will then advise me on what i need. I know I am not covered for Hep B so I will start that series of injections next week. As long as you have them done by AOS you are ok. I am glad of this because it is summer in Australia so the flu shot is not readily available so I will wait until I get to the US for that one.

Pam, I'm not 100% sure of the answer to your question. I THINK that if you don't have the required series when you go for the medical, they will give you the first shot in your series and that is sufficient for visa purposes -- you'd then have to follow up later for the remaining shots. But I'm not certain of this -- perhaps someone else knows for sure?

Also, be aware that your husband only needs vacinnations that are age appropriate. For adults this generally means only MMR, Td and varicella. For example, here is info about this from the UK embassy site: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...ccinechart.html. Perhaps you could contact the consulate in your husband's country to check this?

In my case, I waited for the package to arrive, I got 2 shots from that list (measles & Tetanus and diptheria) even when I had them before ( when I was a child) and I don't have others on that list like Hepatitis B shot, doctors decide what you need and in my experience you don't need to get them all.

I don't believe Hep B is required if you are over 19.

There are some on that list that you won't need....I waited until the time of my medical and got a tetanus....MMR....that was all I needed.

Hi all,

I thought I had this clear in my mind but now I am confused  I told my husband that he should get his vaccinations now while he is waiting for his package from the consulate to arrive, (we are in the very early stages of applying for his visa, I am waiting for the fee bill to arrive for the AOS). He told me he checked with the physician who will be doing the medical for his visa and he told him to wait until he receive his packet from the consulate and once he receives the packet bring it to them and they will tell him what vaccinations he will need.

my wife had lost her vacination card, so she was going to have to get some shots. we asked about doing it before hand. turns out in our case it was cheaper and easier to just get it done at the time of the medical exam. after reviewing her records, the doctor said she only need to the MMR and DPT. the only thing i would recommend as a concern with getting the shots at the medical is that 1 in 20 people have a reaction with the MMR shot about 7-12 days after receiving the shot. so if you can help it, try to get the medical done at least 14 days before your interview. you don't want to be sick at the interview.
