Confusion around I-131

Hello,

I recently submitted an I-130/I-485/I-765 for my wife who is adjusting her status. It seems that most filers also include an I-131 with their submission. I thought I-131 was only for extreme circumstances (illness in the family, other grave issues), am I incorrect?

Can we file for I-131 *just* because she's waiting for her I-485 decision? Her grandma is turning 95 in 45 days and she wants to attend this family event. I am just curious to know if we should bother with trying for I-131? If not, how long before she will be granted parole (which step in the process). We received our NOA text message today and want to know when she can start travelling to see family again.

Thanks!

I-131 can be used for any travel, as long as she hasn't overstayed more than 180 days. It is free when filed based on a pending I-485. You can send it in with a copy of the NOA1 from the I-485 when you get it.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
