Where in NJ are you?

I'd recommend the CS my husband used if you want to try another one - cost $80 for the medical; shots were additional, but he let us put most of the costs on our insurance as an annual physical (so we ended up only paying $160 out of pocket all together) and the doctor himself was very nice. He has two offices -- one in Camden and one in Lumberton.

Hi,

I'm in Atlantic City.

I should get my vaccination record translated soon, so i'll first go back to the medic i paid and see if this time he'll do the paper.

But can you give me the adress of the doc you went to?? never know, maybe it'll be usefull also for others here

I think most of the Civil Surgeons are doctors looking for an easy way to make money. The CS we used was so old that he couldn't even find my wife's arm to administer the TB shot. He pinched her arm but squirted the TB serum all over her arm instead of inside the skin. We paid the $150 to but at least they got the paperwork right. This system is a real joke and the doctors know they have you over a barrel.

You might consider just using a language web site to translate the information and see if this doctor will accept that. It's worth a try.

I had some pretty negative experiences with civil surgeons though everything worked out in the end!

After I had my medical done in Canada I realized they never gave me a copy of the vaccination sheet, so I had to contact them from the US and have them fax it to me which was a huge hassle. Then I had to find a civil surgeon here (RI) who would transfer that info to the vaccination supplement for the GC application.. it took forever to find someone since the list immigration gave me was apparently incorrect and listed a bunch of people who weren't certified, or refused to transfer the info. I finally found one and I spoke with the doctor himself on the phone and he told me he could transfer the information for 25$. But when we went in to the office both he and the secretaries acted like they'd never spoken with me, they had no idea who I was or what I was talking about (and it was the same office)! They kept saying I needed to have the entire medical done. The doctor himself was very sick looking, smelly, and unprofessional, in dirty casual clothing, no name tag, and when he came out I thought he was a patient, not the doctor. After explaining myself about 50 times he agreed to do it, and he didn't even fill the form out properly - he left some parts blank and copied the wrong dates for the wrong shots. Ughhh. Luckily, there were no problems with that and I have my card now!

From what I have seen here in California most of the civil surgeons on the USCIS list are physicians that tend to treat lower income people, some may even be illegal. Maybe they are getting some sort of restitution from our government for caring for the underpriliaged but it seems that be being given the 'civil surgeon' status has given them the license to steal.

When I took Claudeth to get the supplemental done most civil surgeons we called wanted to do a physical. I brought up the point that all we wanted was the supplemental and, fortunately for us, Claudeth had the paperwork given to her from the physical in Manila. Definitely call around and get several estimates.

Once we got over the full physical hurdle they then wanted to charge us for doing an xray. Again, we were fortunate that we had the xray from St Lukes so all they ended up charging us for was the tetanus shot and filling out the supplemental. They still charged us $70 for the tetansu and supplemental but at least we were able to get the 'sealed' supplemental to send in with her AOS.

Maybe if we started complaining more the USCIS might do some investigations on how civil surgeons currently operate and make some changes. I would sure hope so!

Alright,

I'm mad at all this civil surgeons that are supposed to be there to help us getting the right papers so we can adjust our status legaly.

here's what happened to me:

i got a K1 in august, come to the US in october, get married in november, and now trying to get everything to adjust my status.

but i miss the paper from my medical exam i had in july in france, so i can't provide the I-693A for my AOS.

I then start looking for civil surgeons that would be able to do it for me from my french vaccination record, according to the list of surgeons in NJ given on uscis website.

I called around, and first surprised: all the surgeons i'm calling wants me to have the full medical exam, or they won't even try to help.

prices vary from 150$ to 350$!!!!

So i picked the cheapest one, and get an appointment, after asking many times if the surgeon would be able to read french, and every time the answer was YES.

I went to my appointment (about 1h30 drive), paid my 150$, waited, get the medical exam, and when arrived the time to speak about vaccination, the surgeon just tell me: i'm not able to read this

Ok, after a few minutes talking, he said come back next week to see the other surgeon, maybe he'll be able to read it. he then made a copy of my french vaccination record for the other CS.

When i called, before the long drive, i asked the 'new' CS if he was able to read the french, and of course, not!!

So i said, alright, you made me a useless medical exam, so i want my money back.

they just laugh at me!!

So for those in NJ that need to see a Civil Surgeon, do not go to this one:

Southern Jersey Family Medical Center in Hammonton (white horse pike).

I called INS and here's what to do to complain:

write a letter to:

Assistant chief

Internal Sec. and investigative operation

USCIS 111

massachusetts Ave. NW Suit 7000

Washington DC 20529

also, send a complaint email to this adress: uscis-complaint@dhs.gov

The lady i talked to told me she had a lot of call from people having trouble with CS, so i think it's important to know we have a way and the right to complain.

Now, for my problem, i'm trying to get my french vaccination record translated, so maybe i'll find a surgeon nice enough to just fill in the form i need from that.

HI there,

I don't know far away you are from Newark, NJ. But I know of a pretty fair one in the Ironbound section of Newark, right off of Ferry Street.

If you need more information, please let me know.

thanks

I would love it if someone could tell me how to convine a CS to do JUST the vaccinations. Everyone I have spoken to refuses to do the vaccinations without the full medical exam, even though as you all know it says clearly on the USCIS form that people with K1 visas do not need to do the exam over again. I mean, despite the fact that the government directs us to do one thing, what choice do we have but to do the whole medical again if we can't find a CS who will cooperate???

And don't even get me started on how ridiculous it is that the results of the medical exam at the foreign consulate are not shared with the applicant. You have a right to know the results of your own medical and blood exams, even if you get the "A-OK" approval from the consulate clinic.

I don't know if all Civil Surgeons are dishonest.....I think a lot of them just don't know procedure. I had to make several calls, but I finally found one who knew what I was talking about. No medical exam required!

Reference the thread mentioned above. It might help.

Do you have the medical results from the physical before the embassy interview? I can't remember the form I.D. right now. We presented that and also the reg that says the physical is good for one year. We did call around to several CS offices because of this issue or the cost.

Good luck
