Hi to all who have gotten their approval notice! I have just received my notice and want to get clarification on what to except next. There are a lot of different responses on the forums, where some have received packet 3 and some who received neither 3 or 4. I will lay out what I believe to be true, and please provide any suggestions or tips!

1. NVC received case, provides case number, sends case to Delhi - sends email when sent

2. NVC will schedule an interview date - a hard copy of interview date will be send to beneficrary in India

3. Delhi embassy will send Packet 3 - then we will send back DS-203 part 1 and applicants statement, via email to support-india@ustraveldocs.com (Anyone fill out DS-260?)

4. Receive packet 4 will guidelines (passport, photos, medical requirements, evidence, etc.) to be brought to interview

5. Register on usatraveldocs.com

6. go for medical

7. attend interview and pay visa fee

Any help would be appreciated! I am really confused on points 2-4, when do we receive these docs? Does NVC or the embassy send them? What if we do not receive them - just print out from online?

Thanks!

This may differ from country to country, but for us, the embassy won't schedule the interview until you've sent in your DS forms (including 2001 with cover letter) and they've received the results from the medical. So I don't think #2 happens until later.

"Packet 3" was a single letter, sent by the embassy once they received our file, which gave a link where we could print out the needed DS forms. I believe this is pretty standard now. You should be able to find this information on the embassy's website though (we knew what forms were needed long before the "packet 3" letter arrived).

My fiance is actually filling in DS-260 as I'm typing this.

You'll need the case number, beneficiary ID number, and invoice ID number to complete this. To get these numbers, you have to call NVC (to my knowledge, they won't automatically provide them... except the case number, which is listed on the "packet 3" letter).

But doesn't the 260 form, for relationship dropdown, not have an option for fiance? How are you filing that out?

The packet 3 you received had the requirement for ds-260 and 203?

Anyone filing in India have comments?

From people I mailed who had a recent interview in India, they only needed 230, not 260. DS-260 is for IMMIGRANT visa. Technically, k-1 visa is NON-IMMIGRANT so have to fill out DS-230

Overview: What Is a K-1 Visa?

The fiancé(e) K-1 nonimmigrant visa is for the foreign-citizen fiancé(e) of a United States (U.S.) citizen. The K-1 visa permits the foreign-citizen fiancé(e) to travel to the United States and marry his or her U.S. citizen sponsor within 90 days of arrival.
