Greetings Everyone,

(Short version of this rant--here's a link listing the exact documents to bring to interview--known as P4

Das Link: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html

Now the rant----

There is little clarity on here (at least that I could find) and else where (including the web/us gov sites) about the P4 specific documents for k1. When someone gets the p4 in china, a link to typed K Visa instructions is provided with a very broad list of documents . This is a pdf that does not clarify which documents specifically are needed for the interview (K1 visa explicitly) . For example the pdf (given to us in the p3 instructions and on the CGI stanley site) list documents like :

  • a resume
  • court and prison records
  • military records
  • visa extension notice

To add insult to injury the DS 156 K (included in the menu of forms on this very pdf) has redundant requests for documents and says they must be attached (to the DS 156K) to apply for a visa-- of course I know to attach them once for the entire packet but this kind of maddening stuff is ..well maddening and some of the stuff on the DS 156 K is not exactly what is on the larger pdf requirements or is slightly different.

  • A birth certificate (already covered on pdf above , the pdf says you also have to have this DS 156 form which says to have the birth certificate --pretty circular)
  • Evidence of engagement to Fiancee (what is this--can't provide engagement --show ring?) Can provide plane tickets phone etc and proof of relationship==which is already covered on vague pdf above
  • Evidence of financial support (already covered on the K Visa instructions--which again includes the DS 156 K as one of the required documents that t h e n requires this redundant evidence request.
  • Police certificates (already covered)

The answer is here though.....an official US govt. list of what is exactly required for documents for P4 (the interview) for K1 (NOT the vague PDF "K Visa Instructions" This link (active today and around for some weeks at least) has the following :

  • Two (2) Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (prepared in duplicate).NOTE: K-1/K-2 visa applicants should not fill in Form DS-160, Online Nonimmigrant Visa Application
  • One (1) Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application, Form DS-156K

K Visa applicants applying at U.S. Consulate General Montreal and U.S. Consulate General Ciudad Juarez have different application form requirements. Review information on the U.S. Consulate General Montreal or U.S. Consulate General Ciudad Juarez website to learn which forms you must complete.

  • A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the U.S. (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions)
  • Divorce or death certificate(s) of any previous spouse(s) for both you and the U.S. citizen sponsor
  • Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for 6 months or more since age 16 (Police certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older)
  • Medical examination (vaccinations are optional, see below)
  • Evidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be requested)
  • Two (2) 2x2 photographs. See the required photo format explained in Photograph Requirements
  • Evidence of relationship with your U.S. citizen fiancé(e)
  • Payment of fees, as explained below

ETC

The link ---

I'd welcome someone provide a real exhaustive cookbook that gets updated when the gov updates about the hard and fast document requirements....it can be jury read so no single member makes the call but instead a sort of merry group of members all nod and say yes yes yes..especially those that got approved.

Thanks!
