Dear friends,

I wrote before about my problem with a double last name and a hyphen missing inbetween them. Last week, I managed to call and ask for a correction. WEll, today I received a confirmation letter from USCIS saying that correction were made and a hyphen was insterted ... BUT..... my middle name is missing AND they made a new typo - wrote letter T instead of P in my last name. I called them immediately, but they said they cant file new typo-request, because it should be 30 days since the day I made my last request. I was told to wait till October, 13th.... Now. I got an e-mail notification today saying that my Work Permit and Travel Documents have been approved and I should receive them in 30 days. It looks like i will get my temporary Green Card totally messed up, without my middle name and with one letter misspelled. What should i do? Any ideas????

Set an InfoPass appointment and see if the officer can straighten things out before your documents are printed.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The biggest problem I see here is that you think your green card is "temporary". It is not. Nothing else you mention is of any consequence to the world or life at large.

Your Green card is not going to have your middle name (patrynomic) anyway. Neither Alla's nor the boys did. That is not an issue

Your green card is "conditional" NOT temporary. It will be valid for 2 years. After the two year period you will file for Removal of Conditions and receive a green card valid for 10 years. A holder of a conditional green card has every right and privilege of any other green card holder for the period of validity

Stop panicking. You are going to get a document with your name mispelled. No one will die, it is not a big deal. It happens all the time, espeically when one is transliterating a name from a different alphabet. BOTH our sons had mispelled names on their documents. Stop making phone calls. When it arrives and it is convenient for you, make an info pass appointment at your local USCIS office and explain it to the officer who will help you get this corrected. In the meantime, if anyone asks, such as an employer, simply explain the situation and show some other ID. "Typos" usually have little effect on people's lives. This is a "typo" and nothing more.

I would not even concern myself with the Work/Travel permit and just wait for the Green Card to arrive. The work/travel permit IS temporary and is replaced by the Green Card.

FWIW

Sergey's name was spelled "Sertei" When he got his first job (before we got the name corrected) he showed his Vermont drivers license which had it spelled correctly (the DMV was able to understand the typo) but his employer still got his name officially listed as "Sertei" and printed him a name tag with that name.

Since he is a rocket scientist (really, a rocket scientist) he has this dry, droll sense of humor and decided he would just be "Sertei" at work at hi summer job. Of course his w-2 came in the name of "Sertei" also. No problem, he filed his taxes and nothing bad happened...the SSN number rules out.

Try to have fun with it. Immigration is thrilling every moment!

Thanks a lot for your reply! I did not get a green card yet, only an Employment Authorization card ( combo card, allows me to travel too), it is valid for 1 year. Still waiting for my Green Card that will be valid for 2 years. They say I am to wait for about 9 months...
