Translator has to reside in US?

I've read that the translator of for example birth certificate can't be me. Makes sense.

On the other hand it doesn't have to be a court sworn profesional translator with stamp and everything.

So my question is, does this person has to reside in America? Because I know 0 people that are fluent in my language here in America and I don't want to pay for the service.

Can I just ask somebody I know from my home country to translate and sign it for me? Or they wont accept it?

you can translate your own documents. If you do choose a translator they do not need to be in the US. My husband had all of his documents translated in his country.

translations can be done by anyone as long as they are accurate and attested to be an accurate translation

some embassies will want a notarized document but that is rare

yes you can translate it for sure

I don't know where they got this from aside from being a translation company and wanting to increase their business. There have been numerous reports on here of self-translated documents being accepted.

1/4/13 - I129-F Sent | 1/8/13 - Received by USCIS

They are providing false information just to get business. You should email them and ask them to point out where in the immigration laws is states that the petitioner or beneficiary cannot do the translations themselves.

Anyone fluent in both languages can do it. You can even translate your own documents. My husband translated his own birth certificate and we had zero problems. The person that does the translation just needs to provide this certification on the document they translate > http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations

FROM I-129f NOA1 to VISA APPROVAL: Exactly 8 months! No RFEs
