Hi everyone,

I am up to remove conditions in June 2014. All of my documents are in my maiden name (green card, Canadian passport, SSN, etc). I really want to change to my name to my married name, but am trying to sort out when the best time to do this, and in what order? Should I wait to change my green card first, then tackle all of the other documents?

Also, does my green card name need to match my SSN name in order to work?

Thanks!

You have two options, you can submit a request to change the name on the Green Card but there is a fee. The other is to change it without this additional fee at the time of removal of condition - I-751. All you need is to submit a copy of your new oversees passport with the name change in that.

Once you get your Green Card with name change, then you can get your name change in SSN, Bank Accounts......

Thanks. Although in order to change my name on my Canadian passport, I need supporting ID with my married name (which I won't have until my green card is processed). So this would bring me back full circle. Do I for sure need my passport in my married name when applying for I-751?

Copy of passport was definitely needed at the time of DS-230 (now DS-260) but not at I-751 - However if I were you, I would send a copy of marriage certificate (with husband's surname) to absolutely avoid RFE.
