K1 visa applicants go through a different process that has nothing to do with the I-130s being transferred.

Unfortunately for the CR1s it looks like everything is still heading to the Kansas office, I wish it would start work soon.

Hey there,

My husband received the same e-mail last Thursday, actually two e-mails in the same day about our I-130 being transferred from the VSC to somewhere unknown yet. I am hoping it's not going to the actual New York city field office...I guess we'll both need to wait to get the hardcopy transfer notice to confirm where our petitions actually end up!

It could mean that they are sending them to the Overland Park, KS location for processing...as this location is supposed to be getting ready for a new division to process solely stand alone I-130 petitions, if they haven't already started.

Just wanted to let the OP know that our petition was transferred to the Nebraska service center as we received the hard copy notice.

I know that many F-2A I-130 petitions were transferred to Nebraska and ours was initially submitted as a F-2A but we upgraded it in August to CR-1 because my husband became a USC.

I am absolutely relieved it didn't end up at the NYC field office and I just hope that this transfer signals a somewhat faster processing.

Best wishes to all going through this process!

If thats the case, why is your application still processed at Nebraska ? If it was upgraded, it should be handled by NBC.

Technically your assumption makes sense but there is a lot that ÙSCIS does that does not follow expected protocol...

A theory is that our petition got lumped in with a batch of F-2A petitions transferred from VSC to Nebraska so they can use up a visa number even though our petition no longer requires one. Incorrect application of an available visa number for the F-2A category is not a cool thing in my book so I do hope that isn't what happened.

In short, no confirmed explanation for why they sent it to Nebraska as opposed to NBC. And I am not going to even bother to complain because it's way better than having our petition sitting at the VSC!

You kind of make sense. I will also be upgrading my wifes petition after 2 weeks once I get my citizenship, but now i am seriously thinking if i should do that or not. Because if i do that, maybe my file could get stuck in a limbo coz right now its actively getting processed at NSC under F2A.

So my best hope is that it gets approved in 2 weeks and then sent to NVC and I can then get it upgraded at NVC instead of USCIS. But as they say, nothing is guaranteed.

Whats your take ?

I understand your hesitation.

If I were in your shoes, I'd also wait the two weeks to see if your I-130 gets approved. Even if you decide to upgrade it while it is still pending at NSC after you become a USC, I don't think they will bother to transfer it elsewhere.

Either way, once approved and sent to NVC, the October visa bulletin shows that any F-2A category petition with a PD prior to Sept 8 2013 is relevant for processing and would be assigned a visa number.

Congratulations on you soon becoming a USC!
