Depends on how far you go with that. It was a preemptive strike from a caged tiger. The US was trying to limit Japanese expansion from an oil embargo. The japs wanted one strike to break American resolve. That back fired. But its not exactly cause and effect as there WERE other options for all parties.

It did do one thing, it set America's resolve to go to war. Prior to this single event, the American population was reluctant to get involved in yet another mostly European war.

I'm pro revolutionary war because of how the constitution set the framework for this country. That being said, based on the founding fathers own words, what this country has become is not exactly what they had in mind originally.
