That said, I don't follow your train of thought on how this proves proposed gun control cannot have any impact. Your argument seems rather black-and-white to me (it sounds like you're saying that if it can't stop every single scenario, it doesn't work) but perhaps I'm misunderstanding your point.

That's what he appears to be trying to say. Of course, by that very same logic, any unintended death resulting from a weapon kept for personal protection - and there are hundreds of those every year - would be proof positive that a gun for self defense is ineffective. Every gun carrying victim of a violent crime - again, there are thousands of those as well - would be proof that a gun does not work for self protection.

Alexis had been treated since August by the Veterans Administration for his mental problems, the officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the criminal investigation in the case was continuing. The Navy had not declared him mentally unfit, which would have rescinded a security clearance that Alexis had from his earlier time in the Navy Reserves.

The VA is like that. It is insane how hard it is to a get them to declare that any prior servicemember has a service related disability, especially if it is a mental disorder. "Treatment" probably consists of group therapy and a prescription for an antidepressant like Citalopram.

If the guy didn't have a gun, this would not have happened. That's it.

Not confiscate. For instance, the California Department of Justice is currently running a program where they knock on people's doors and confiscate without providing the owners an opportunity to transfer. Thats wrong, its seizure of private property and they are misusing funds to do so.

Instead the property should be transferred to another family member.

Anything that goes against a free-for-all is a stepping stone to eventual confiscation. That's the essential argument that gun aficionados - as I must now refer to them in order not to hurt their little feelings - are constantly making.

So you think that the proper course of action is to transfer firearms to another family member, eh? What a great idea. Let's consider this: If Adam Lanza had owned firearms, those should have been transferred to his mother, right? Clearly, he was in no shape to own any. Just so happened that he did not own any firearms but that his mother actually owned the very firearms with which she was murdered before her son murdered 26 more people including 20 kids with those very firearms. Man, imagine he had those guns rather than his mother. What could have happened. He could have killed a lot of people. Oh, wait...

Transfer to a family member is about the worst idea I have heard thus far. It does absolutely NOTHING to save lives.

Guns are a constitutional right. No one said rights don't come with price tags.

Yeah, but its an orgy at this point. Its stands to rationalize that less guns equals less gun crime. I'd just like to see the numbers start ticking in the other direction for a while. A de-emphasis if you will.

Yep. Southern California is gun crazy. The population is in a constant ready state for Armageddon, the racial tension is intense. The law enforcement response is confiscation when ever possible, let the gun owner either show up with proof he is the legal/registered owner of the firearm, or fight in court to get the firearm back.

I left about 30 years ago for the northern part of the state, and it was the smartest thing I ever did.

In that case there can be no argument that system in place did not work, it it was never reported he had mental issue no check would had prevented him from purchasing a weapon.

People for tougher gun control should be blaming VA for not doing their part.

He's had his weapons for years before he was diagnosed. The system didn't fail. There is no system in place to have him turn those weapons in upon being diagnosed because, quite frankly, nobody actually knows that he has them. And that is just the way the NRA likes it. More bloodshed that way, more gun sales result. Mission accomplished. Membership drive successful!

Enjoy the next 3 years...and the 4 after that...and here's a tissue. LOL

i enjoy everyday. who ever is in office has no effect on my daily life. we all get to deal with what someone else decides. i'll get up in the morning & do my best to provide for my family today, tomorrow, 10 years from now...it'll be the same.
