Hi VJers..

Okay here I go..

I the beneficiary is 21 years old, my husband to be is 31 years old. We've heard that for 25 years below beneficiaries should have their parents sign a paper allowing them to get married and have it notarized. Our case handler/lawyer said that "no you don't need to have your parents sign anything".So I'm confused I trust our lawyer but why do other people do that?Or is it what they had to do before and the USEM changed it now?

Please guys help.Thanks in advance.

I never heard that. Age of consent is 16, legal age of marriage is 18 both in PI and US. You're already 21. You are no need permission from your parents to get married. If you were 16, you need parental consent to get married. I hope it helps. Good luck!

I've read those people who posted about their experiences here and they had to have that paper signed by their parents that''s why it's confusing me cause yes I'm an adult and already 21 and allowed to get married but I was thinking maybe they require it in the USEM Manila cause of the culture?I have no idea these things just getting me more confused. Thanks guys!

The CFO has been known to ask for parental consent and parental advice notorized afidavits.

Philippine law says 18 to 21 year olds must obtain consent from parents to marry. 22 to 25 must obtain advice on marriage. Since you are 21 it would be a consent.

Your lawyer is correct, not needed for USCIS and USEM but is obviously not familiar with the CFO seminar.

You do not need to have written parental advice to apply for the K1 visa with the USEM. But CFO may very well require it. it is easy to get. Go to your local registar in the nearest town/city and they usually have a form. Your parents complete it and have it notarized. So you have time now, best to get it before the actiivty with the USEM and CFO pickup for you. It will help having it and keep your stress level down.

And yes Trisha had one but then again we did K3 and thus were married in Phil.

City Hall. It is the same place you would apply for a marriage license. In your case you only need the advice letter.

Hi

Please check the below link for the exact requirement of K1 Visa

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html

Don't get confused.

Knowing what is needed for a K1 Visa is one of only 2 parts for a Philippines Citizen. they must also past Philippines Government requirements. Ability to Marry is one of those and CFO handles that. Since it is a Philippines requirement, necessary to leave the country, the US government does not cover it. But when the beneficary gets the visa from the USEM they are told that they must also go to CFO.

^ What he said. They even ask your parents to come to the CFO Seminar XD

Don't get confused.

I don't need to read the complete requirement of the k1 visa and I am aware of that infact we are already approved and just have to do the medical and interview. That's why I posted this thread to get a quick answer to those who knows.
