My fiance loves flowers, so I'll be greeting her at the airport with a beautiful bouquet and plenty of kisses to welcome her to her new country. When she enters her new home, she will be instantly surrounded by Debussy's piano playing on the sound system and a pathway of petals, leading to both the bathtub and the bed, with a bottle of bubble bath and massage oil at each, respectively, to allow her to soak in and relax, something much needed after a long stressful flight and huge time difference. How's that for a romantic and memorable initiation? She won't have to worry about doing anything else until the next day. She will have one more gift to wake up to, however - her own real nice new smartphone, already activated, as the one she has now will be useless here of course. She'll appreciate it, as it will help her feel connected right away with that.

OMG! I'm agreeing with Niblet twice! I'm going to let the Asawa-to-be pick out her own phone too.

Nibs, you should consider posing for your sweetie on the bed while she's freshening up, ala Burt Reynolds (lets see if any of these young kids can figure that reference out!)

And Leon, she might actually be able to use her same phone, depending on what provider you use. If T-moblile or AT&T, and assuming her phone is unlocked (most in the PI are) you could just pop in a new SIM card and she'd be set. But who doesn't like getting a new phone? dancin5hr.gif Don't throw away the old one either, she can still use it when she goes back to visit, or she can set it up to roam here in the US so she can still get text (free to receive) as long as she keeps 100p loaded, and she won't loose her number back in the Phils.

I'm on Verizon. And she wants a new phone anyways (she constantly window shops for one lol). But that's good advice about not throwing away the old one and using it for return visits.

Verizon huh, If she decides to get the iPhone, I think the GSM portion is unlocked, so if she returns home, I think she can just pop in a local sim card and use the local networks (don't do this in the US, or you'll get hit with a huge charge) on the same phone.

If she wants to roam her in the US with her Phil #, make sure she enables roaming before leaving for SMART you text ROAM ON to 222, not sure about the other providers. I usually buy a bunch of load cards to top it up every couple of months (your load expires after 60 days), or maybe she could get a friend or relative to e-load her every couple of months. It will cost 20p to send a text, free to receive, normal charge for the sender.

I have an iPhone from Verizon, and it's a CDMA phone, it doesn't have a SIM slot. I'm not sure if it is the same deal with other brands and Verizon too. It's definitely a different animal, and probably why you don't see all brands through Verizon (such as Sony's Xperia).

As far as keeping in touch with friends and family back home, she will just be using FB and Skype apps, as they are all connected through that. It's how she and I communicate as well.

Oh, please don't get an iPhone. Get her a Samsung S4. iPhones are so three years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I loved mine when I had it, but I think the S4 is at least 3 times the phone. Asawa ko says the same thing...

If you can use a computer, AOS is simple. Just my opinion, though. I had iphone for 3 years, and switched to S4 after my sister advised me not to go iPhone 5. She had that, and her hubby has the S3. I got the S4, and haven't missed the iphone for a minute. The learning curve was shallow, and now I am happy.

will take that under advisement,,,,Thanks,,but what will hank say?

What kind of items could I put in a gift basket for my fiancee on her arrival?

like lotion, shampoo, any other little things a Pinay would like? Hopefully other Pinay who have arrived will remember what they needed or should have brought with them!

Thanks in advance!good.gif

do not fail to have rice available- Carry some to the airport in a cooler in a zip lock bag if it is a long drive back home.

Other than that

A 100.00 dollar Walmart gift card and take her there as soon as she can manage after her flight

You are going to suck at anticipating what you think she is going to want

It will be like one of those picture panels---

what I thought she wanted

What the folks at VJ said she wanted

What I actually bought

What she really wanted

She is gonna do a fly by on the bubble bath, look at the bath tub like WTH and be hunting the rice, your heart is in the right place, but you have not yet entered the Pinay zone..goofy.gif

As for phone..let he pick her own..I have learned with women, especially Filipina women- Phones area fashion accessory and status symbol.what kind has nothing to do with functionality.Us guys think different.

You really want her to get excited--Have her a Michael Kors Purse
