For starters, I'm Turkish American and my wife is from Belarus. We got married in summer 2010 in U.S. We decided not to stay away from each other and moved to Turkey where we can live together back in September 2010. We started our IR-1 procedure in April this year after realizing that we should have done this earlier. But anyways, April 11 was the date that we got the NOA1. It's been over 5 months now and we are still waiting for NOA2. Now, here's the thing. My father-in-law is asking us to help him out with the grocery store that he will be opening in Belarus. Although we told the officials that we are living in Turkey and requested Ankara as our interview post, now I don't know if moving again would create a problem. In general, I see that the USC remains in US and the spouse takes care of the needed stuff from overseas. I already moved to Turkey and we've been here almost 3 years. Now thinking about another move??

About the domicile, I kept paying my school bills in U.S and kept my accounts open. I have a job offer for both myself and for my wife for the next summer from my boss that I worked over 7 years. When it comes to AOS, my boss will help us out.

So at this stage, I'm concerned about moving again. Anybody has any experience or suggestions?

Thank you for your time

You don;t have NOA2 yet, so the case is not at an embassy yet. Changing the embassy where the interview will be at should not be a problem.

It shouldn't pose a big problem, but it could create some confusion that you'd have to clear up. My husband, the USC, and I met and married in Canada, where we lived for years. He got a job offer in the US, we filed the I-130, received NOA1, then he moved to the US to start work, while I stayed in Canada. When he moved, he notified USCIS, and also informed them of my new address, since I moved to a smaller place after he left.

What happened after that is that, when USCIS approved our petition a couple of months later, they misunderstood and thought I had come to the US with my husband. So they sent our petition to the wrong place, and my husband had to meet with them and get it all straightened out. Also, they kept sending stuff to our old address in Canada, even though we had told them I had moved.

I realize your situation is a bit different. But my point is, from my experience, USCIS is not great at keeping track of address changes. So just make sure you have a way to collect any mail they might send to your old address, and make sure to double-check that they get your information right. Good luck!

USCIS:

03/25/2013: I-130 filed from abroad

03/29/2013: NOA1 email received

04/05/2013: NOA1 hard copy received

06/12/2013: NOA2 email received - Approved! (75 days after NOA1)

06/14/2013: NOA2 hard copy received, but mistakenly states that I am already in the US

07/09/2013: Infopass meeting, told file is at NRC, steps taken to retrieve it

07/26/2013: letter from USCIS stating file has been retrieved and sent to NVC

07/30/2013: Infopass meeting, information confirmed

NVC:

07/29/2013: NVC received case, notice sent and received a few days later

08/09/2013: NVC case number assigned

08/11/2013: paid AOS bill (marked as paid 3-4 days after)

08/12/2013: filed DS-261 (electronic version of DS-3032)

08/18/2013: filed I-864 AOS

08/30/2013: paid IV bill (marked as paid 4 days later)

09/04/2013: filed DS-260 (electronic version of DS-230)

09/17/2013: received Checklist

10/09/2013: received Checklist

11/05/2013: received Checklist (argh!!)

12/10/2013: Case complete!

Montreal consulate:

01/13/2014: medical

01/17/2014: interview - Approved!

01/22/2014: Visa issued

01/24/2014: Visa ready for pickup

01/25/2014: POE - Montreal

Thanks for the heads up kitchen princess. Unfortunately, when we move out from our rental place I will have no access to the mail anymore. Before I specifically told the officials to sent the NOA1 to my P.O Box address in Turkey but they sent the it to home address anyways. But yes I will try my best to chance it via email, phone, best way I can.. Thank you.
