Is it true that you can send the beneficiary's birth certificate for the Adjustment of Status not officially translated?

Simply translated by anyone who is fluent in the English and Portuguese??? With a form like this?

So far I know it's completely fine. In my case, we rather to hired a certified translator (most of the immigration attorney's office in south florida, have that service) it was $15 and he used the USCIS format. But that was for our mental sake! But sure you can do it yourself

There is no such thing as official translation (unless the original issuing body provides you with one). They require a certified translation. This means that there is certification somewhere that says pretty much what you wrote. The translator does not have to work as a professional translator, or work for any translating company, just know both languages and put that certification line on the translation.

Ok, that's interesting because when I called the USCIS national customer service recently to check that point, (before I read this post) after a very rude lady gave me a roasting she said I shouldn't translate my birth certificate by myself as the USCIS will probably refuse it since I could write whatever I want on it (yes, Her words), so I should have someone else who doesn't benefit from it at all does the translation. She even said I shouldn't hire a professional as it would be a remunerated job, therefore the same thing again, since there is benefit it's not recommended..... Now I have been reading this post and I read I can do it myself...... I am a little lost, please tell me this woman had obviously no clue about the subject..... so I can translate my doc right away as I am fluent in both languages.........!!!

That is why it is called the misinformation line around here. Be careful listening to anything anyone tells you that simply answers the phone for the USCIS call center. My husband translated his own and we had zero problems with it. I have seen others post the same; that either they did their own or their spouse did it and had no issues. Just be sure that certification is on the translated document. You can find it on the USCIS website even. Nowhere does it mention you cannot do it yourself. The comment about a paid translator not being accepted either is just plain laughable.
