California has its issues, for sure, but it has the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Mountains, within four hours driving distance, from anywhere in the state, without the crappy weather of Oregon and Washington states. That makes it hard to leave for some flat or landlocked state.

My colleagues who moved there bought in the 400k range, they live in brand new palaces and have great schools. 400K in Jersey gets you a WW2 era cape cod with a mold problem in a good school district.

My BIL bought a palace in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for under $200,000, a new custom house, that sat vacant at the end of a cul-d-sac, because nobody in the area could afford it.

There is a lot of prosperity in some of the Dallas and Houston suburbs. 400K homes fly off the shelves. It ain't no thang.

Aliens can cook! I love all these hole in the wall Mexican restaurants that serve the best food, and now all these Thai restaurants and noodle places are popping up, that the wife and her friends love.

I have developed a phobia for large bodies of water anywhere near where I live. Lakeview? That ish will give me flooding nightmares. No thanks.

PS. I just realized I have no idea which part of the country you live in.

When my wife and I were in cali, making our way from Yosemite to San Francisco, we stopped at a complete hole in the wall Mexican restaurant (if you can call it a restaurant).

My God it was good.

California is about to go big on fracking, despite all the complaints from the hippies. When that happens in the next few years, California's economy is going to explode.

That tells me expectations are high, but stuff isn't selling. They recently had a major tornado that destroyed a large part of the town.
