I bet if they did somehow part ways.... more people would immigrate to TX than away from Texas, I know of 4 people moving there in just the last 6 months.

Cheap housing in distressed areas often attracts people that can't afford to live someplace safer.

Cheap housing huh? Well that must explain the stampede of people heading to Detroit and some many other similar areas.

People in my neck of the woods move to Texas for cheap housing in a place with plenty of work. Lots of empty land, lots of work. It really is kind of nice when you put it that way. What's not to love about that? I'd do it if the opportunity presented itself.

I would say the threat of tornadoes, hurricanes, drought, and flooding, but New Jersey had its share of hurricanes, so that is not a reason not to locate.

Check the source - Wing Nut Daily, as filtered through the warped mind of the VJ Troll.

Two points I'd like to make in response to that.

1. Smitherman gave an interview to WND. WND reported on that interview.

2. The title of the thread is the title of the WND article.

I would say the threat of tornadoes, hurricanes, drought, and flooding, but New Jersey had its share of hurricanes, so that is not a reason not to locate.

My colleagues who have moved to the Dallas area have nothing bad to say about it. Reality trumps ideology.

I have friends that live in Texas. The biggest complaint is the high property tax.

Texas fares well on income tax, but its sales and property taxes are less attractive. There’s a tax trade-off.

Forbes agrees.

Not an issue for people moving there from NJ. Our property taxes are higher. And we pay a state income tax as well (about 3-4%).

For the same PITI, Texas housing gets you a lot more than it does here.

Yeah it does, in the outlying areas - $80,000 for a four bedroom bungalow in Lindale. That was last summer when my wife went to visit a friend.

My colleagues who moved there bought in the 400k range, they live in brand new palaces and have great schools. 400K in Jersey gets you a WW2 era cape cod with a mold problem in a good school district.
