Hello! If anyone could please advise, that would be great.

I am a US citizen. My husband is a Belgian citizen - we both reside in the UK, and are applying for his greencard through a DCF application in the US Embassy here in London.

I sent in our application on August 1st, 2013, NOA was received on August 27th. We have just received a letter today asking us to file the next forms and arrange for his medical examination.

Our initial plans were to hopefully have his greencard by the end of the year, and then fly to the US around Feb 2014.

Now our plans are delayed because of work related reasons, and we are looking to relocate to the US closer to Sept 2014.

Can I delay sending back the forms, medical, police clearance etc, so that we can now receive the greencard a few months later, in conjunction with our new timeline?

Once the greencard is approved, am I right to think that he has 6 months to use it before it expires?

Many thanks!

this is very doable

begin to delay your process but never lose touch with the embassy. the embassy is the one who will do your file from start to finish now and they have the power of extensions. I believe that even at the embassy stage once they give you the AOS and visa app package, that you have one year to complete it, but confirm it with them

upon a successful interview the VISA not greencard will be valid for use for six months

you are gonna be just fine I am sure

medicals and pcc have expirations, so get those later

One thing to note is that the medical has a 6 months validity which means that you need to enter the US within 6 months of the medical for it to remain valid.

I think the best option would be to call the USCIS and ask to post pone your application because you are a year away. Also, I read somewhere that you have six months from the moment you filed I-130 to send the rest of the application, but I might be wrong!

Also ... Be really great to know if you have been told to do the new online forms for the next stage or the old paper ones. People have been wondering if the online ones would just be for applications started after 1 sept, or for package 3s sent out after 1 Sept.

Many thanks indeed for any light you can shine on this...

Check the big London DCF thread - I posted to it a couple days ago. Anyone with a Packet 3 letter dated Sept 1st+ does the new forms (they actually tell DCF folk what to do about invoice number, too!), everyone before does the old.
