Just been discussing this with some online friends. Can you really love someone before meeting them face to face or is it just the anticipation of the relationship and future you fall in love with?

I met my wife in person.

Somehow, I find it difficult to imagine falling in love without an actual "in person" relationship. Otherwise, You would only get 50% of the picture, or less.

Can you have a great deal of affection for that person? Sure.

Love? No way.

As per my experienced with my husband now. We've been friends first online - chatting, exchanging emails, calling on the phone with each other that makes us more closer and the likeness to meet in person but love before we meet? was not present at that time.

As i've said likeness, anticipation, respect, looking forward to meet in person. Then we made the plans to meet .... being together everyday for 2 months with our respected sons. That's the first time you gonna know a person in real when the time comes he/she's beside you. Alot hurdles we skipped successfully.... being friends-respecting each other moods- then ... love blooms from little to bigger .. then thats the time we decided to go for it.

Now we're married .. we knowing each other more and more .... likes and dislikes, good and bad traits, there's no perfect couples and nor perfect relationships. It's how you handle it together with understanding, respect, love ... & some sacrifices if you both need too.

(L) LOVE is amazing puzzle in life! you don't how it will start and end.

I am not really sure about ...I give meting online or fon... lets you be your self more...not too involved in the first phsycial impression...but I think the love develops after meeting and spending time together. Love even, though it would ideal is not all about feeling, ideas and dreams... attraction means lot too!

I met my fiance online, I had very strong feelings for him during our "online courtship". We both felt like we were in love with each other but I think deep down we both knew this needed to be confirmed. Upon meeting face to face, our feelings were confirmed and we are deeply, madly, truely in love. In hindsight, I will say that before meeting we were not in love but had very strong feelings. The way we feel now compared to then is completly different. I am not saying it isn't possible, but I think people tend to get carried away with the idea of falling in love sometimes.

Yes definitely, from my experience. I would probably not believe it was possible if it didn't happen to me, but I'm a big believer now, and I wouldn't trade his love before we met in person for any of the past bfs that said they loved me and I would have doubts, because I never doubted Charles love for me.

Yes I believe you can.

BUT......I was mortified it wouldn't translate to 'real life'. I was afraid there would not be 'chemistry'. I was afraid that we might only be seeing what we wanted to see, which was in all honesty an imcomplete picture.

I fell for my husband hard online. We didn't meet face to face for five months and it was driving me nuts! I was not interested in spending months - years - online only to learn later it was a heartbreaking fantasy.

I was in love but I had to see it returned in his eyes. And I had to see the rest of the picture. It's very one-dimensional before meeting face to face.

I had very strong feelings for Gary, and kept telling myself there was NO WAY i could love someone that i hadn't met in person yet. He had strong feelings for me as well, but we never told each other we loved each other till after meeting in person. Then we were worried that when we did meet, we wouldnt get on lol but needless to say we got on very well :P:luv:

If you ask me, you get the answer: "Hell no."

If you ask my fiancé, you'll get the answer: "Of course."

We met in person after chatting for about fourteen months. There was something there, but since we weren't into cybersex (bores me), we didn't really even have lust feelings, just a quasi-friendship. At least that's how it felt on my end.

Us, too, absolutely  We both knew we loved each other long before our first in-person meeting, and that was only confirmed when we did meet. Certainly our love has grown and deepened since then, but that in no way invalidates the reality of the love we had before we met physically. I also believe that no one can determine whether another couple has or could have real love, regardless of our own experiences.
