So I am still not clear. DS230 or DS260? They have told me both.

You can check the embassy instructions letter online. The embassy may have updated their instructions letter to the DS-160 (USEM did it yesterday)

From the embassy website for Tokyo:

http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-important.html

2013:

  • Use of DS-160 For New K Visa Cases (October 9, 2013)
Effective immediately, the DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application will be used for processing K-1 and K-2 nonimmigrant visa (NIV) applications, except the following situations. The DS156 Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF), the DS-156K (Nonimmigrant Fiancé Visa Application), and the paper-based DS-230 Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration will not be accepted.

    - If you have already scheduled for an interviewed or have interviewed and your case is pending additional documentation or administrative processing.
    - If you have already received K-visa instructions from US Embassy Tokyo or Consulate in Naha.

For DS-160 instruction, please see Complete the DS-160 page.

DS-260 is for an immigrant visa, not K-1 . DS-230 part 1 is/was used with the K-1 . As of Oct 7th everything has been replaced by the DS-160 for the K-1 visa.

I still suggest you follow the embassy instructions for Tokyo, which states to use the DS-160 effective Oct 7th.

I am glad that the DS230 part 1 is acceptable. Everything they asked for we turned in and tracked it to the embassy in Tokyo. Do we wait for further instructions or go on line to try and set up an interview appointment? Also do we go ahead and complete DS 160 as stated above? Or have we surpassed that filling original requests?
