how to retain vietnamese citizenship

i am a u.s. citizen. do i retain vietnamese citizenship just by not losing it? Or do I have to register to retain it, and if so do I have to re-register every few years?

Can you give more info? e.g. You got U.S. citizenship by birth or naturalization? You got Vietnamese citizenship by birth or naturalization?

My understanding is that if you were born in Vietnam, you are always a Vietnamese citizen in the eyes of Vietnam , unless you renounce your citizenship (which has to be done in Vietnam to count)

The law on Vietnamese nationality does not say you can lose Vietnamese nationality by naturalizing in another country.

However, Article 13 does say that overseas Vietnamese who have not yet lost their nationality before the effective date of the law should register with a consulate within 5 years to retain Vietnamese nationality. Not sure if this applies to you.

if u vietnamese then U always a vietnamese there is no change there.....even thought you are now a US citizen.

hi everyone,

I want to retain my Vietnamese Citizenship, but my passport is expired at 1995. so, my question is: Is it just renew my passport?  I was born in Vietnam, I still have my birth certificate and giay chung minh ID.  but no living address in VN.

Second question that I have; if I am looking the permit permanent resident in VN.

How can I apply? Do I have to stay in VN during the time to processing and how long?

Is anyone know? please let me know. Thank you in advance.
