A lot of residents end up in the ER, so that is just about how it works. For trauma, it is not a good match. I once when to the ER with a 6" tear in my right arm. This confused the resident that was supposed to treat me, so the EMT when that cleaned my wound returned about 30 minutes later and the resident was nowhere to be found, he said, "I was a corpsman and used to seeing stuff like this, so I can fix this for you if you are tired of waiting." He was almost done when the resident returned, so the EMT asked him, "So, do you want to learn how to do this?"
