I honestly don't know what to think about this.

On one hand, they committed probably the worst crime you could possibly commit. Not only did they rape a girl, but they raped her to death -- I couldn't imagine a worse way to die.

On the other hand, killing them makes those imposing justice no better than those committing a crime.

I wish people would come up with a form of punishment/rehabilitation that actually improved lives, as opposed to giving victims a sense of revenge and closure. I'd think that forcing them to do service/labor which would be conductive to good would do more to make amends than just slaughtering them.

They're not being slaughtered, they will be executed. They will die a much less horrific death than what they subjected the woman they raped and brutalized and mutilated to. They deserve every bit of what they have coming to them. What one should wish for is that this verdict will save other women in India from becoming the victims of other such animals. If you believe that these creatures can be rehabilitated, then I think you're kidding yourself.

Slavery was suggested half-jokingly. I still don't think hanging really does anything for the victim, though -- in the worst case, it just puts them together with the victim in the afterlife. Perhaps they can properly apologize there?

It does not do anything for the victim, keeping them alive or punishing them in any other way was also not going to do anything for victim.

Death penalty does work as deterrent.

It does something for those that live. The next set of animals may leave their potential victim alone facing the prospect of being strung up if they don't keep it in their pants. That's the reason I think this is the appropriate punishment in this case.

This isn't going to put an end to all rapes but I think it'll prevent a few. One of the perps broke down crying like a little girl when he learned that he'll be strung up. The prospect of getting strung up ought to deter a number of potential perps, don't you think?

I am not so sure that people who commit such heinous crimes are forward thinking. I think it more of a spur of the moment action in most cases.

Most rapists won't get caught and they know they won't get caught. These rapists got caught primarily because of the horrific nature of their crime. Had they kept their intrusion limited to penises, no one would have ever known who they were. The woman, in Indian style, would have simply gone home and washed and kept this to herself. In a shame based culture some things are not spoken of.

I agree with you. I don't think they make an excel chart with the various punishments and decide on a crime where the punishment is bearable.

Most rapists won't get caught and they know they won't get caught. These rapists got caught primarily because of the horrific nature of their crime. Had they kept their intrusion limited to penises, no one would have ever known who they were. The woman, in Indian style, would have simply gone home and washed and kept this to herself. It's absolutely sick, yes. If the death penalty should be used, there's no doubt this is a case where it should be. I simply question the effectiveness of it... I don't know if it eases more suffering or induces more.

If it deters crime and such rapes don't happen again, it will have been a good thing, and there's nothing left to discuss. From what I know about India (I know Japanese who were transferred there) women get felt up all the time on public transportation, and are sexually harassed regularly. It's obviously a huge problem.

Not untrue. Maybe it helps none to string these animals up. But it sure doesn't hurt either.

Well as many people are calling them animals I don't think my suggestion of bringing in dogs so extreme, nor the idea that was suggested of having a gladiator style gatherings.

I don't see them as people. And I certainly do not see them as in any way same as me. People have human qualities. These four creatures have shown quite impressively that they lack basic human qualities. Thus I don't see them as people.
