HI, me again.

I had a question. I am writing the cover letter for my I130 petition at the moment, and it came to my attention that it should be mentioned that the petitioner is currently abroad with the beneficiary. (This would seem obvious to me, as I am filing to the Chicago lockbox, but I can certainly mention it again on the CL.) I also read on VJ, that I could write on the CL a request to have everything expedited due to living abroad. I was wondering if it would potentially hinder my case by mentioning the current state of Egypt and the revolution and what not. I don't want to hurt my case either, though, by making some stupid sob story... Should I mention it - or just do a basic "Please find enclosed I130" etc.??

Thanks for your help.

This would be the "sob story" if I used one:

I am a United States citizen married to an Egyptian citizen currently residing in Cairo, Egypt. We are hoping to move to the United States to offer ourselves, and more importantly our children, a better future. We respectfully request that our I-130 petition be considered with utmost haste, as the situation in Egypt currently cannot provide a decent quality of life for any man, woman or child.

you do not get expedite because of being abroad

filing from abroad processes quicker, yes

a cover letter sob story is not what you want to do.. an evolution of the relationship, yes that is a good thing

the US is well aware of the situation in Egypt

your petition will follow a normal route in general regardless

A sob story will not help.

It used to be possible to be expedited due to living abroad, but I haven't seen that in a while. It might still happen, but even when it was happening, it was not something you asked for, nor was it something that they admitted to doing. It was just a trend we noticed on VJ.

Just make sure it is clear you are living in Egypt. All I-130s go to the Chicago lockbox (including those where the USC is not living abroad).

Just make sure it is clear you are living in Egypt. All I-130s go to the Chicago lockbox (including those where the USC is not living abroad).

Just to note, some of them go to the Phoenix lockbox and some to the Chicago one depending on where you are living in the USA. However, all of the abroad I-130 petitions do go to Chicago.
