Atheist shot-down when court rejects bid to remove "In God We Trust".

I have no problem with people believing in whatever they want. It's when those beliefs start having an impact on the way the country I live in is run that bothers me. God has no room in the government of a country made up of many faiths and beliefs.

Well, they really do need to reshape the guidelines of the relationship between religion and state.

People still actually say that America is the country chosen by God, and the good guys, etc. etc. etc. It's not because they really believe it -- it's about controlling people. If people think that every war America decides to get involved in is because God wants them to, they're a lot more likely to care enough about it to risk their lives and fight. Of course, if you don't want to fight, American can just start a draft and force you to.

The ironic thing? There are countries with official state religions that better separate church and state than the U.S. does.

1. You are way over stretching the concept of "separation of church and State" ... which is not even in the Constitution.

The 1. amendment addresses two things.

Establishment -Congress shall make no law establishing a religion.

Free exercise - "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

How does printing "in god we trust" establish a religion (If so, what religion) or prohibit anyone from exercising their faith?

In all these decades can you name for me one church synagog or mosque or denomination that has sprung up due to that one line on our coinage?

Has one person been prevented from worshiping (or not) according to their conscience?

Bro you are way too sensitive.

So if it's not preventing anyone or prohibiting anything it's all good?

Great, glad you've finally accepted gay marriage, Danno :D

My kids are learning to read English, and they ask me what god is. Had the government not written that on the money, I wouldn't have to explain that a majority of American believe in an invisible stalker who watches over everyone and judges them based on his guidelines.

What would Xenu do?

I would think you'd be teaching your children about God eventually anyway.

I'm an atheist, and so is my husband, but that doesn't mean we don't want our future children to be educated about different beliefs. The more they know, the better, so they can make a decision for themselves about what they choose or choose NOT to follow.

It's not that my kids don't know that people believe in various gods... it's that they couldn't believe the government would put something like that on money, so they asked me what god meant, thinking it was another word with something to do with the country. It's not easy for me to explain to them why a country which they've grown up always thinking was the most developed, would put something so silly on their money.

To them, god is something you claim to believe in so that crazy foreigners will give you free food.

What would Xenu do?

A sign of how far the world has come.

Once upon a time (not too long ago, but in the past), (a particular) God is something you claimed to believe in so that crazy furriners would not kill you.

The statement "in God we trust" is merely a statement of fact about the American people......

.... That the American people (on the whole) do trust in God and Gov't recognizes that our rights come from god as expressed in the Constitution ... both federal and

State.

Do we mis-identify "Muslim countries" because not everyone there is muslim?

Do you also have heart-burn with statements such as "Land of the free, Home of the brave"..... when we know for a fact many people are in jail and there are lots of cowards about?

So forcing a belief on ALL of us in an unprovable "super natural" all knowing being is a good thing?

Well, it worked for Santa Claus, I guess that's ok then. huh.png

Ok got it.

Blind faith is just blind thinking...

PS when you see God tell him that his creation is a total disaster.

Its as funny as "Our thoughts and prayers go out to..."

I mean it's just a tag line now.

There may be a universal force we don't understand, but he's no man in the sky observing all the carnage. If there is a God, he's one sadistic mother and totally unworthy of praise.

And child sex too?

The absurdity begins...lol

The church I went to

Please pray for Brother Smith because.......................

OMG you are not going to believe what Smith did

80% of the time the prayer E-mail was straight gossip.

And they all pretend to be religious to get elected...then get caught screwing, stealing or lying. It's just a scam to make the simple folks feel good.
