Hey all,

I am preparing for my interview next month and I have my mother as a co-sponser for me on the 134 because I was in the Peace Corps last year and do not meet the requirements. My mom and I have read over the details of the form, but she was wondering if there is a time-frame for the affidavit. Does it become void after he becomes a citizen, or is there a time frame for it??

Any info would be helpful!! Thanks!

Sabrina

134 is a promisory note basically

whether or not the embassy you will apply at will accept a co sponsor with a 134 is the real question for you

after arriving at the states and marrying, an adjustment of status will take place. this is when the 864 is filed. the 864 is the actual contract. it is valid forever unless the immigrant becomes a US Citizen or has completed 40 quarters of work credits (my wording may be off a bit here)

the questions about the lifespan of the 864 are available at the dos site

Ok thank you for the clarification. So I have a follow up question... If my mother is the co sponser for for the 134 does she have to do the other document after the Aos or can I do that on my own?

If by the time you get to the aos phase and you meet the 125% needed, then you will be able to do it yourself

if you do not, you will need a cosponsor using either the 864 or 864a depending on living status

once the officer accepts your 134 it will be the nvc processing the 864
