How Essential is Employer Letter?

Quick question,

My finance is trying to get his documents together but he's having a hard time pinning his boss down to get a letter of employment. She moves between a lot of different offices and hasn't responded to any of his emails. He does have all his pay stubs and is working on getting a letter from his bank (which is an online only bank unfortunately!) for proof of money paid in over the last year. Is the letter from employer going to be crucial or has anyone been able to get by without it?

I've heard it only helps and isn't a must compared to tax returns and pay stubs/W-2 forms (or the UK equal of a w-2). Many on here did not supply one and seem to have gotten through OK.

I didn't supply an employer letter as it is my husband's company - he would be the person writing the letter! We were fine. I just provided the tax transcript from the last year and his last 6 pay slips. I didn't provide a bank statement.

Has you fiance ordered his tax transcript? He will need the last 3 for AOS anyway (or, at least, the final income numbers for 2 years and the tax transcript for the most recent year).

He's ordered transcripts but we're not sure they'll do much good. He was out of work for a lot of 2012, started his current job in December 2012, so he's been earning more than enough for the affidavit of support. That's one of the reasons we waited till this year to apply for the visa.

Starting to worry now!! Do you think we'll need a co-sponsor??
