The best way to know your file has been transferred is when you get a notice from USCIS denying your application for failing to appear at interview. :)

Seriously, cases can go for quite awhile without touches. Our case went over nine months without a touch. Our interview notice was a real shock because there was no touch or email notification before we received it.

Our AOS is presumably pending in Atlanta (we were also not notified of a transfer) and, as you can tell from the signature line, we also haven't had a touch in quite some time. Atlanta seems to be better than Charlotte but at 6 month, is one of the slowest offices as well. According to that timeline, our interview should be some time in February, so my plan is to initiate a status inquiry into our case around the middle of January.

This is anything but a scientific method on my part so, of course, YMMV.

FYI: I've just made some inquiries and found out that our I-485 is still in Missouri. Atlanta is quite backlogged, so they are saying that it could easily be another 4 weeks or so before it gets sent to the Atlanta DO. Now, that's what I call SLOOOOOOOOOW. Oh well.

Although my wife won't need her EAD/Green card until July, '07, given the amount of I485 backlog in Atlanta, I think we will go ahead and apply for EAD in January, so that if she still doesn't receive her green card by July, she'll still be able to start residency (her medical residency starts July 1, 2007). Under the circumstances, an EAD would provide a nice insurance policy. Since she'll certainly have her green card by January, 2008, I won't have to worry about renewing her EAD, so applying for it early won't cause us to spend any extra money renewing it later.

To the OP, if your DO is anything like Atlanta's (and the processing times suggest that it may be even worth), your I485 could very well still be at NBC.
