The part you highlighted at the end there is exactly what religions try to do. You only find this to be a problem because its not what you believe.

Uhh..Wrong

Like i said I have no dog in the fight..i probably agree with atheist points of view more than Christians

All I am saying is, many say Atheist have no agenda. That is not being intellectually honest.

Many times some Atheists are just as fervent and rabid as some Christians

That is my only opinion on this thread, other than both Christians and Atheist need to stop spending so much time worried about what the other thinks.

No need to speculate what would happen, the last century was marked in Blood by it.

Millions and Millions perished in those country where Communism and Militant Atheism spread hand in hand.

MOre died on any slow week during the last century than died in 400 years under the sword of the Crusades.

Mass killings under Communist regimes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mass killings occurred under some Communist regimes during the twentieth century with an estimated death toll numbering between 85 and 100 million.[1]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_killings_under_Communist_regimes

Now to be clear, these murder did not happen under leaders who just "happened" to be Atheists, no, Atheism was the State position, in fact Stalin was the leader of the Atheist organization. He saw to it Churches were converted into Atheist education centers and that all children were properly schooled in Atheism and only Atheism.

Oddly enough no matter where this ideology went, mass killings followed, as "The ends justified the means."

So we need not wonder what it would be like.... what we *can* wonder is, it possible to be any different, given the record?

-------

Comparison to other mass killings

Daniel Goldhagen argues that 20th century Communist regimes "have killed more people than any other regime type."[52] Other scholars in the fields of Communist studies and genocide studies, such as Steven Rosefielde, Benjamin Valentino, and R.J. Rummel, have come to similar conclusions.[2][26][53] Rosefielde states that it is possible the "Red Holocaust" killed more non-combatants than "Ha Shoah" and "Japan's Asian holocaust" combined, and "was at least as heinous, given the singularity of Hitler's genocide."[53]

Amazing that those numbers line up with the rise of mechanized armies. Religion has been used as a mean of control historically. Not always but for sure a few times. And I think in the age of the firearms, it wasn't needed as the fear level was so high

Look, I shouldn't say religion is the cause of all worldly problems. It isn't. In fact it's done some wonderful things. And created some wonderful people

The deal is, I don't believe in it. Like at all. It's just my personality. I wouldn't care what other people wanted to believe if it didn't affect me. But it has and i guess I'm growing more jaded by it. Way too complicated for people to check their faith at the door when they leave church and I understand that. But it makes it hard for me to find common ground with folks the more religious they become. And it's frustrating.

-Mechanized armies have nothing to do with it, dozens of countries were Mechanized only those who embraced Communism which is dependent on Atheism murdered in unknown numbers.... oddly enough, they killed THEIR OWN PEOPLE! I mean who does that?

-I appreciate your honesty about religion and religious folks, I also get a bit weary of people talking about sports, you can't even watch the news without hearing about it, their advertisement and radio stations are everywhere...... people wear their gear, place stickers on their car, make their kids play sports and even send them off to sports camp. (Wow I never realized how similar it was to religion until just now)..... but I resolve a lot of people like sports and are interested in it so I just accept sports as part of the national fabric. And on the whole Sports can have a lot of good elements to it.

-Try to see the good it does, rather than the irritant part of it. Religion prompts people to do a lot of good works, it provides a unique atmosphere for families to spend together (and stay together) . Religion adds great meaning to special occasions and a sense of community. There is no program which reforms convicts or addicts as successful as faith inspired change. I think if you looked you could find good things about religion even by simply looking at the common results or fruit.
