An approved or denied tourist visa will have no affect whatsoever on your immigrant visa application. When you go for the tourist visa, just bring a letter from the university program, financial aid form that requires signature, info regarding your housing, wife, child etc so you can show compelling reasons to return... Good luck

Becareful, was told by embassy that they do not give tourist visas to those who apply for immigrant visas....you must wait out the process... if they by chance allowed it you would have to prove without a doubt you'd leave the us before tourist visa expired......

Dear all

i went to embassy and they said that i submitted strong ties. but they need more time to decide and said it is called administrative processing. he said that they will issue visa for me. but they need one more document which is my cv. they took all documents that i submitted to them. i asked about my passport and he said as you want you can take it or leave it. i already left my passport. also he said that this process will take about one month and half.

what do you think? does any one pass through this situtation before?
