Can someone please tell me if we need finger prints with our police clearance ?

Don't know if each consulate has different requirements... but my wife came from Ukraine and she was not required to submit any prints with her police report, but her finger prints were taken just prior to her interview at the embassy and also when she arrived at the U.S. POE.

Info from canberra embassy website

"What sort of police check do I need? Do I have to apply in each state?

The Australian police check must be done on the basis of a fingerprint check. You do not have to apply from each state youve lived in unless you were born before 1941. In that case only, you will need to apply in each state where you have lived. Application forms for police checks are available from your local police station. "

yes. download the forms from the AFP website and fill it out. take those and a traceable envelope addressed to the AFP in Canberra to a local police station and get fingerprints done. they will send directly to the AFP for you. you can pay for the name and fingerprint check via credit card its all on the AFP forms. it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to process to do it asap.

cheers

Where did you find that text?

I went to this page: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/obtain_police_cert.html and can't find that text anywhere. I was told by the embassy today that fingerprints aren't required, that a name check is all I need. How is this so confusing?

i sent a name check and got a RFE . This is wat they sent me..

AUSTRALIAN POLICE CERTIFICATE: Submit the original and one photocopy. The certificate must be issued on the basis of afingerprint check, please click here for instructions, police instructions.http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_3272.html

Submit the original or certified copy

Submit one photocopy

The police certificate you submitted is incorrect. The letter should be issued verifying that the search of the police records was based on a fingerprint search and not on a Name Check as they did for you. Your police report and the fingerprint chart are being returned to you by mail today to obtain the proper documentation.

Thanks agnesb and Pamala!

I find it utterly ridiculous that on one embassy page it tells you one thing and on another it tells you something else. What's worse is the e-mail I received yesterday from an embassy staff member gave me incorrect information!

I'm actually using an immigration lawyer in California for this process up to the K1 visa being granted and she told me nothing about this process. My fiance and I will be submitting the I-485 form sans aforementioned lawyer!

Thanks again! :)
