I believe this information is country specific because the London embassy packet3 instruction does request the DS 230 and not the ds260.

i inquired about this two days back and here was their response below;

Guess what! Thanks to you, vtdluv, yes, you personally, http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html is being corrected . K applicants do not need to fill out the DS-260 -- that's an error. All they need is the DS-156 and DS-156K. If you go to http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visa_forms.html you can download the information packet for K applicants (it's too big to attach to this post). Thank you for getting me to track down an answer so we could get the correct information out to all the K applicants in the world!

The fact that a DS-260 is not needed is indeed general information for all K-1 applicants at this point in time. I cannot speak for other embassies, but the DS-230 is indeed required at the London Embassy as of this posting.

I agree with UK-USA-K1 this is the instructions I was ALS given. Ds230 is still a requirement in London.

Oh cool then,but like i mentioned earlier my inquires on this were made 2days back as i have my interview already fixed and now its no longer a requirement under the K1 forms on http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html. Just thought it'd help.

DS-260 is required for everyone. Some embassies have not updated their information. NVC can give you the invoice number. Some state department employees do not know the correct information. In some cases the packet 3 has not been updated. Unless you already passed the NVC STAGE and had already submitted the DS-230 or was sent the P3 before 9/3. Your instruction will say DS-230. However if you are just now applying for the visa you will be required to do The new form online. (DS-260). Again yu can call NVC for invoice number if NVC RECEIVED YOUR CASE BEFORE SEPTEMBER.

As far as I am aware all US embassies require it as of Sept 1st.

I suggest those currently at NVC ask this question. Since there Re so many conflicting information. Everyone is at diffrent phases.this whole ds260 has begun to confuse a lot of people. For me I know I do not need to fill DS 260.

But in order for others to not cause a delay in their petition it is best to ask your consulate or at the point when NVC case number is about to be given ask if you have invoice number for ds260. This way people will know. I do not dispute that this is something everyone has to fill in the future however this information does not pertain to everyone right now. We can all say which information pertains to ourself because we follow the instructions sent out by the consulate.

I initially followed the same instructions to fill out the online DS-260 which currently replaces DS-230 required for an immigrant visa application, since K1 isnt one, the option to choosechoose your fiancé/fiancée as ur petitioner was not included, some Vj memebers even suggested spouse as it was the closest. But as rightly suggested country consulate differs so it's best you call or email your consulate because NVC will not give you a satisfactory answer.

If you want to play extra safe, fill out both and bring/send both. That way they have whichever they need.

Yes, The DS230 was replaced by the DS260 but since the website has been updated so have the expiration on the DS230. This is now country specific.
