Sorry to hear that your fiance is still on AP and it usually only happens with the males coming from Pakistan. Right now the average time for AP is around 6 months or longer from approval but needing processing per CO at time of interview. My husband was in it for 5 months and it is a dark abyss and NO ONE can expedite the processing. Please come to the Islamabad forums and you will see that you are not alone. You can have field investigations to the job, family, or friends too during this waiting period.

I would recommend that you contact your senator or congressman for help moving this along. That's your best bet at this point.

I have contacted my congressman his office is giving me the run around, and I have also contacted my senators too, but no news, what do I do now how long does this take. What is Adminstrative processing.

Adminstrative Processing and Administrative Review vary from embassy/consulate. Administrative Processing is a deep dark hole and means a more indepth investigation of your case if you are going through Islamabad. So far we have had two males from Afghanistan come over and Omid her fiance was in AP for 6 months she was the last one. NO ONE CAN expedite this and will not and cannot help you until your case is cleared via the embassy.

Administrative processing can mean field investigations and they are common from the Islamabad embassy where they will make sure the person is free to marry, is the relationship true, does the family approve of the marriage, was it arranged and if so from custom or was it for monetary gain or greencard? Too many variables once your case goes into AP.

Hope you come to the linked thread and talk to some of the others that are going through this. My husband came and I am still here trying to help others understand and see there is light at the end of the tunnel from Islamabad.

I know and all of us were told the same thing. I married December 25, 2005 and sent in our paperwork and if you look at my profile we have history back to 2003. Everything processed and cases went to Islamabad end of July 2005 but they would not grant interview until December 12, 2005 and we were told case is fine just needs some administrative processing. January 2006 field investigation and DOS or no one would tell me anything until we contacted them in May 2006 and they said they were sending my husband a letter to come back to the embassy. His visa was ajudicated on May 10, 2006. We were told all fine and so were all the others that are in the same situation as yours. Our 30 -45 days max ended up being 5 months.

Okay, So are they doing the field investagation now or after the the Admistrative processing I am lost how longer until they would give her a visa. I have been back twice, and it is a long flight to Afghanistan. I though the K1 Visa doesn't take this long, but I guess I was wrong.

Read this link and you can see it happens. Yes, it should be the faster of the visas but they still will investigate all cases and especially those coming from Islamabad are more scrutinized.

Hang in there and hopefully they will be able to issue her visa soon.

Usually the K-1 visa doesn't take that long but things are changing from year to year. My fiance (now husband) had his interview on May 27th 2005 and got his visa July 12, 2005. After me there was Omid and as Mary said her fiance just got here after 6 months of AP. I am sorry that you are going through this. The only thing I can say is keep calling them in Islamabad and don't let them ignore you. I agree, those flights to Afghanistan can be brutal.

Delays in the processing of visas will continue

Islamabad, August 22, 2002 -- Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the State Department has been engaged with other U.S. government agencies in an extensive and ongoing review of visa issuing practices as they relate to the security of our borders and our nation.

Through the use of supplemental application forms and other measures, visa applications are now subject to a greater degree of scrutiny than in the past. This scrutiny means that visa applications in some instances take longer to process to conclusion than has been customary. We recognize that individual applicants may experience inconvenience and hardship if their application takes longer to process than they expected. We are doing everything possible to meet the legitimate needs of prospective travelers consistent with the priority we must attach to our security and legal responsibilities.

While our consular officers strive to offer visa applicants as expeditious service as possible, their primary responsibility is to carry out U.S. law and to ensure that applicants to whom they issue visas will not pose a threat to the safety and security of the United States and its inhabitants. This is a serious responsibility that must take precedence over other considerations pertaining to a visa application.

We realize that these necessary security measures may affect the travel plans of visa applicants, especially individuals intending to enroll in or continue college and university studies in the United States. We will make every attempt to meet the legitimate needs of prospective travelers to the United States, consistent with the priority of our security and legal responsibilities. We recommend that individuals build in ample time before their planned travel date when seeking to obtain a visa.

Special security screening procedures affect a limited number of prospective travelers. Our goal is to have assured security within a system that is responsive to everyone wishing to visit the United States. However, delays in processing of visas will continue to occur as the Department of State, working with other agencies, brings new information systems on line. Responding to the attacks of September 11, 2001, Congress ordered that security inadequacies be identified and addressed. By legislative instruction, some of this work was specifically to be accomplished by the first anniversary of the attacks. That work is in course now in accordance with those instructions.

The time needed for adjudication of individual cases will continue to be difficult to predict, as necessary new procedures are refined. Visa applicants affected by these procedures are informed of the need for additional screening at the time of application and should expect substantial delays of six to eight weeks or more before a visa can be issued.

We trust that affected applicants will understand that this waiting period is necessary as we strive to make every effort to ensure the safety and security of the United States for all, including foreign visitors.

This is from the Islamabad Embassy site and AP is considered a normal part of security checks and this is why it takes so long for cases going through this embassy.
