I'm sure I said that child marriages occur because of the desperate poverty in those countries where it occurs. But it's so easy to read something without understanding what is written, right?

In her book she very clearly details her family's abject poverty. Her father was indebted to everyone and couldn't hold down permanent employment. He was a real piece of sh_t scumbag by all accounts and he had way too many mouths to feed, had nothing to do with his religion. In fact he directly defied his religion when he married off his elder daughter to a man who raped her (absolutely not allowed in Islam under any circumstances). He and the girl's husband were arrested and thrown in jail. The father served his sentence and is out and about, still a scumbag, and the pedophile husband is still locked up I'm told.
