Usually easier to get the SSN in your maiden name, before or after marriage > http://www.visajourney.com/content/ssn

See the AOS guide here > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

~ Moved from K-1 Process to AOS from Family Based Visas- topic is about AOS ~

I have read that either way you can apply for SSN... But recently there's some issue with a vj member that had difficulty in getting SSN after marriage so i therefore conclude if I where you I would get my SSN before marriage and just change name after marriage! I found this more stress free...

Hi,

Once you are US, You Finacee has to file Few Forms in USCIS. If you plan to marry in US in tourist Visa your intention is wrong. You can veiw the USCIS Website to get more information. Marriage has nothing to do with EAD and EAD is a document which authoriz you to work in USA.

After you are married you will file AOS. For most of your questions - Read the GUIDE: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

SSN can be applied for before or after marriage, you need a valid I-94 and pertinent forms, etc. Believe the SS form is the SS-5

My wife arrived on 9/2/13 and we went to SS office on 9/4/13 and applied for her card and had it in about a week. Married 10/5/13 and went back to SS office three weeks later with certified marriage license and did her name change. Filed AOS that same week. Good luck!
