Hi all,

One of the questions on DS156 asked for a national identification number, which I thought I did not have at the time and wrote none.

But after reviewing my documents today, I realised that I actually do have a national identification number.

I'm a Chinese citizen and China issues a national id card. I got one years ago. But I didnt remember this until I was looking at the scanned copy of the birth certificate that my dad sent me since he used this national id card to get that certificate at the notary office.

Now I genuinely forgot about this id card, I havent spent much time at home with my parents since I was 15 and just vaguely remember getting my photo taken for some id during one of my trips back home. I'm worried that the consulate will notice this discrepancy and say I lied on my application form. Is there anything I should do about this?thanks

should I email the consulate and tell them about this? help please, I'm really worried :'(

Stella, you might be best to email the consulate about this. They are reasonably quick in their response. If they don't reply today, then they would in the next couple of days at the latest smile.png They may just ask you to fill out another DS-156 form with the correct information and send to them (or similar)

(btw, that's how I found out that my Packet 3 has been received by them - I emailed them yesterday and they responded in about 15 minutes!)

thanks, I just did email them. they havent responded yet. but I also just clarified with my dad, turns out my id card was expired in 2010 already, so I don't need to worry about that anymore, the notary office in China was just too lazy to use updated information....

Also great news that they received your packet! you should have your interview time soon. courierpost just showed me that my packet is finally delivered this morning :)
