Previous drug use and Medical

Hi all,

My fiancee has in the past used drugs during her younger teenage years, which is in her medical records apparently. She had her Medical today and they gave her a drug test which she'll easily pass. I've read elsewhere that any previous drug use causes a 1 year delay, so we're hoping this won't be the case here. She hasn't used anything in at least the last 12 years.

Anyone with any expertise on this to weigh in?

Hi,

So, from what I understand, if she has been clean for more than 1 year, nothing weird should show up on the blood test. Depending on what she used to take, 12 months is enough to clear her blood of any trace of anything.

Check how long it takes for the drugs she took to disappear from the system. Honesty is the best policy, so she needs to be open about it and say that she hasn't touched drugs for a year. I am just hoping that the doctor won't start asking too many questions. Normally, if her blood is "clean" then it's no problem.

Good luck with the process!

I just had my medical today and was 100% honest (3 different types of recreational drug, a couple of times each, during a time of "experimental dabbling" about 10-15 years ago). I decided to just tell all and be done with it, I definitely feel better for having told the truth wholly. We'll just have to see what comes of it - hopefully no hold ups but I'd rather take the risk of that than withhold information for something this important. The doctor seemed happy with my answers to subsequent questions after she initially addressed the fact I'd ticked that box. I had to submit a urine sample. I will let you know what happens!

Hi,

Good for you for being honest. That is great and I am sure the doctor was grateful for being honest.

That being said, remember that drugs normally stays in urine longer than it does in blood, so that might be something to consider.

I'd hate to skirt the truth now only for some unforseen thing in the future to force me to be truthful and contradict myself!

I think I am going to be okay given the decade or so that's passed since I did anything ;)

Obviously I am still nervous to get all clear from medical anyway - on all counts, x-ray and everything - but my rational mind knows there's no need.

Well, if it's been a decade, you should be fine. I was nervous for my husband's medical as well, and for the blood test although I knew he wasn't taking drugs, so don't worry too much about it, you will be fine! And almost done too !

Thanks for the replies. I saw some other threads saying that any admitted use regardless of time passed would be cause for rejection so I got worried.

It's been over a decade. We'd be crushed it some youthful indiscretions threw a wrench in us being together finally.

Amazing how many Medical Doctors are here. The Truth should be simply said easpecially with a record.

Even a Hair Folico Exam exam shows only 6 months. (Whats this 12 month stuff) Don't let all this scare you. Just tell the truth when asked and that is part of the Medical Exam ANYWAY. Am I missing something here?

LOL... 10 years. Where was he 10 years ago.. Well you just said: ON DRUGS. But that don't matter. He cleaned and started anew. The OP is worried about what appears posible conviction (s) or just worried about stuff that happened a long time ago. I know it CAN BE taken serious.. It's really up to the Consulate.. IMPORTANT for the OP.. If there is a Concern: Get Proof of Rehab, etc. The Beneficiary can get RIPPED Apart in somethingthing like this. Avoid that. I understand the concern. BUT 10 Years AGO? Proof of a Relationship/Hugs Kisses...

Your Husband/Wife should and will disclose the truth. Everyone make Mistakes..

In all honesty, what Drug? I mean What Drug.

I hear that. There's a lot of conjecture amongst the actual accounts from people on here (well, it is the internet ;)) and that really scared me too. You hear/read the word "ban" and it terrifies you. But all you can do is be honest and hope that it works out. Fingers crossed for us both!

I'm no expert but my Fiance' medical was June 11, 2013. He admitted to previous drug use in his youth and they had him pee in a cup. It did not effect our process. rolleyes.gif

According to her if there was any problem she'd have heard about it by now. The embassy should get the results tomorrow and we'll be on our way to the interview.
