I'm making a plot to talk to scotia bank closer to to figure out what my options are...if I need a Canadian co-signer or if they can transfer the loan to a us affiliate bank or something...I suggest you do the same.

Haha sadly it's a we'll see when I have time...works been kinda...keeping me busy. Luckily I've got an understanding adopted boss lady so at least I managed to get my passport renewed over lunch today (which wow. The fact that I hoofed it across downtown, did the wait thing and made it back in just a squeeze over an hour is a miracle!) but things are promising to get crazy soon

Ah well. The relocation won't be before summer anyway ( give my house one last chance to sell dangit) so I've got time...

If you don't have payments on your car, you should be fine at POE. Just a heads up though, if you're moving to California there will be extra inspections that need to be done. The letter won't be enough.

When I looked into importing my car to California, I was told that the letter and clean title (no financing etc.) would get me past POE, but in order for me to get it registered it would need to go under inspection. California has some of the stricter emission laws in the US, I believe.

Many states have yearly vehicle inspections. I know in Virginia they had yearly vehicle inspections, and then every 2 yrs an emission test. Not very hard tests to pass! I believe the tests may be a bit more strict to pass in California---more along the emission testing

I imported my car to Washington State on a K1 visa. I had my compliance letter from Toyota. When I went to register it I just had to bring that and a few other pieces of paper inside (I believe my ownership paperwork and possibly my old insurance? Not sure) and then they registered it with a Washington state license plate. No one ever saw my car at least not that I know of so no inspection required for me.

My husband just informed me that some areas might have inspections, but our area doesn't. Apparently just the big cities! His sister in downtown Seattle got inspected but where we live and his parents live to the east it didn't matter.
