What a pain, I guess someone at the DMV didn't update your status last year when you went to update them.

Also in TEXAS. You can't do anything online as an alien. I corresponded with Austin DPS head office and they do not retain any immigration info so you show it over and over in person, which you likely already know.

Fast forward to citizenship-- Shortly after naturalization, we went to SSA and DPS the same day to show the naturalization certificate and update records from alien to USC. This was before sending it off for the passport. Both said thet were required to issued new card/license to match the name on the naturalization certificate, which was different than the greencard. (Full name instead of middle initial.) Have you already updated in person at SSA?

At least now you will finally be able to use their online services. Yay!

how do you think one is able to get an ID or DL in the first place???because TxDPS has a system that looks at the social security number

No, you don't have to go to the SS office to let them know you are now a USC.

It's bloody stupid.

Okay. Whatever. Sorry for giving a bloody stupid suggestion. You might want to look at this link to SSA http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1694/~/changing-my-citizenship-in-social-securitys-records

TX DPS--Aliens and citizens both have SSNs. DPS needs proof of immigration status in addition to SSN to issue a license. You show both. You can't get anything from them with only a SSN. They wouldn't change your address without proof of your USC status.

I have to show proof of my LPR status when I update (even though obviously the SSA has that evidence). Separate entities.

I'm sorry you're going through this but I believe I was told (and have read) that I have to take my Naturalisation certificate (when the time comes) to the SSA as well as the DMV. But after changing it I won't need to prove it again, the Iowa DMV will take my word for it.

So I would assume the same is for you, take the info the once and don't worry about it again.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
