My husband had C1/d for ship crew... While our CR1 visa paperwork was processing,,he continued to use his C1D for work and entered on VWP for a visit... When they issued (following the interview) the CR/IR1, they cancelled his C1d... Hope that helps

getting a bunch of mixed answers here, we already filed the i129f. going to texas on sunday. entering on my c1 visa. let's see what happens.

really appreciate all feedback. might just have to contact the dos and see what happens. i will def let you guys know. as of now, my k1 might be issued sometime in jan. since i'm planning to only quit in march, there would be a 2 month overlap.

we shall see.

Here's the problem, a K1 visa is a one-time entry visa. Once you enter on it, that's it. If you leave the US prior to filing for AOS, or during AOS without AP, then you abandon that K1 visa (or AOS process).

If you enter the US on the C1 AFTER obtaining the K1 visa, they (USCIS) could assume that you actually entered on the K1 visa (or should have) and your subsequent departure would be seen as abandoning the K1 process. So when you filed AOS after you "thought" you entered on the K1, they would see that you had left the US after receiving the K1, decide that you had abandoned the process and though you might be able to change their mind, it would be a headache I wouldn't want..

Basically, they assume the next visit after receiving the K1 is the K1, so after your K1 is issued, I would NOT enter the US on the C1 visa, at all. The risk is too great.
