People who are legally blind are those with visual acuity of 20/200 or worse. "Legal" blindness should not be confused with being blind, or total loss of vision. Most "legal" blindness is easily corrected with glasses.

Polk County officials say they’ve issued weapons permits to at least three people who can’t legally drive and were unable to read the application forms or had difficulty doing so because of visual impairments.

And sheriffs in three other counties — Jasper, Kossuth and Delaware — say they have granted permits to residents who they believe have severe visual impairments.

i have glasses, i'm completely near sighted, but i'm allowed to drive with corrective lenses.

there's a reason people aren't allowed to drive when legally blind and some legally blind are allowed to drive - with contacts or glasses.

I need glasses to drive however if you stood 5 persons that I know say 30 feet away from me without glasses I would know who they are. If a person can recognize objects well at that distance even though they cannot read at that distance .......Why deny then their right to a firearm. The cannot pass a drivers test is bogus.

iowa is issuing permits to legally blind who aren't allowed to drive. if a person can recognize objects at a distance - then they're allowed to get a driver's license.

The question is where do you draw the line? At which point do you infringe on the 2nd amendment rights of the blind - legally or otherwise?

What difference does it make whether you could recognize the 5 people you know? What if you stood 5 people you didn't know 30 feet away and had to decide which one to shoot? What do you figure the odds are that you'd shoot the right person?

and saw the interview with Piers Morgan and Emily.

OMG. Emily was so cool about it all, but Piers (or his producer screaming into his ear) really mucked up that interview.

The question is where do you draw the line? At which point do you infringe on the 2nd amendment rights of the blind - legally or otherwise?

This is a state's right issue, not a federal constitutional issue (IMO, and others).

For Iowa to allow it, IMO, is stellar.

Why? blind folk (most of them) have stellar hearing, and can point the gun in the direction of the house-breaker-in-er.
