You are right in that mean things get said about all Presidents. I'm just saying that "the Kenyan" thing is very Obama specific. Certain people don't use his name, they use "the Kenyan" ... not the "Kenyan-American"... I wonder what that's implying?

I didn't use the word racist. I don't necessarily think it's always based on race. I think it's simply an ignorant way to make fun of him and one that other Presidents haven't faced. I've never seen any group of people go after any other President so hard about where he was born, regardless of facts. Have you?

Nothing wrong with making fun of a President. It goes with the job. But I don't see a point in consistently saying he's from Kenya and implying he isn't an American citizen.

Based on this morning's news = O won this standoff. Very well played. Deliberate or not. It worked out very well.

0 didn't win anything. putin saved his #######. he had little to no support domestically or internationally. putin looks like a hero to the world & O looks like a 0.

i wonder what this will cost us. putin will expect to be paid back. if they actually do what they say they will...which i highly doubt.

O put the wheels in motion. Had he not taken steps to show strength & sincere commitment to use force - Putin would not have looked for a back door out.

Kerry was asked - what might avert an attack. Kerry answered (= to) Hand over the Chems.

Follow the trail of events back and this Putin / Assad willingness to offer a solution began with O. It sucks to even type the words but...it's true.

I can't work out what people want any more. Do you want to have the opportunity to make fun of Potus or do you want there to be solutions to problems? None of this ####### means anything, but I am glad that it looks like there is going to be a non military solution to this crisis, well, hopefully anyway.

The Administration misjudged the mood of the American people. The President had wanted to project a strong foreign policy, with his "red line" and assumed that the country would be with him if and when it came to military action.

But the American people are tired of sending their sons and daughters overseas to fight, when there is no perceivable risk to the USA. When it became noticeable that public support just wasn't there, the President decided to go to Congress. With probable bipartisan support, the theory was that the Administration could say they did not act by themselves, but sought a consensus of all political viewpoints.

Yet still the majority public opinion was set against military action.

Then Secretary of State Kerry makes an off-the-cuff remark, with the added corollary that the Syrian regime was unlikely to go for it.

Enter the Russians, who, until this point, had been stating on the sidelines, voicing support for the Syrian government, but doing nothing. Ever the opportunist, president Putin sees a way to make political capital out of the situation and stop a US military strike, which would have shown the Russian stance for the hollow showboating it was.

The winners here are the Russians. They have remained constant through the whole situation, and not the vacillating, uncertain outsiders the US Administration have shown themselves to be.

Should a POTUS not listen to public opinion, and not consult the Senate? Would the US have been better off if Obama had simply launched missiles at Syria as soon as it was learned that chemical weapons could have been used even without knowing who used them? After all, the use of chemical weapons is 'illegal' in international law (Syria not having signed that agreement not withstanding) so it's not really surprising that the POTUS took a stand. Or, is the main argument that the US has no business saying anything at all when another country engages in what is for all intents and purposes civil war regardless of the weapons used?

What I find odd is that some people seem to revel in the POTUS perceived 'failure'. Is it really more important to hate on Obama because he's a liberal than accept that some things may be done differently than they might have been done had the POTUS been a republican during this crisis? I am not an Obama fan, never have been, but it seems to me that regardless of what I think would have been a better way of handling the crisis, we are not engaging in another conflict however limited and that is a good thing, not a bad one.
