I am the partitioner (us citizen) who was divorced 3 years ago who is applying for a k1 visa to bring my fiancee from thailand. Do I need to send the entire divorce decree copy to the i-29 office? To the consulate? Will a copy of the front page do for either purpose? The point is just to show I am divorced, right? Do they even care why? My decree has Social Security numbers, kids names, address, etc. that I don't really want floating around. Any advise out there on what might be appropriate?

State to State it differs somewhat as to what the decree looks like. My husband's looked like a single sheet of paper with the all important date on which stated the dissolution of the previous marriage and it was nortorised with an embossed seal and some court stamps. If that's what your front sheet looks like, that's probably all you need.

His came with all supplementary paperwork outlining the details of the separation of assets, but that's never been requested for anything - just the single sheet.

I think some states give out something a bit fancy looking - but his was just a boring looking form filled out.

I got an RFE to send a version of my decree signed by the clerk of court (Judge's signature wasn't enough....)

I just had to send the one page judgement itself. I guess they wanted to be sure it had not only been signed but also entered into public record.

I don't know if they ask for the whole thing at the beginning but I know they will certainly ask for you fiancée to have an original copy of the divorce decree with her at the interview and they will keep the first page. But every consulate is different.

Read about my experience on my blog (it is both in French and English) www.franceminnesota.wordpress.com

USCIS will want your complete divorce decree. I am pretty sure the U.S. government already knows your SSN and your kids names as you do file tax returns, so not sure what your concern is. ;)

It is wise to go get a certified decree from the clerk of court where it was filed and send that. The one you get from the judge with their signature isn't enough sometimes, from what others say. The one with all the pages is the detailed decree, and in some states the certified one looks more like an actual vital record/birth cert but you mentioned TX isn't like that. No one can tell how much an RFE will slow you down but personally I would send all 30+ pages to avoid any waits added on to your process.

If you won't panic at the idea of an RFE however, then send the top page and wait and see :)

Good advice all around. I same the whole damn thing. Does everything I send to the i-29f process place get forwarded to the overseas consulate? I read someplace I need to send two packets. One to the 1-29f and the other to my thai fiancé.
