(CNN) -- Rangers at Yellowstone National Park are investigating the shooting death of a 3-year-old girl at a campground inside the park.

The mother of the girl told a 911 dispatcher that the girl shot herself with a handgun Saturday morning, according to a statement from the park.

The identity of the girl and her family was not released.

Visitors to the park are legally allowed to carry guns, but "discharging a firearm for any reason is illegal," according to the park.

21 children have died in 2013 for being left in the hot car, these parents are so much smarter than a parent that leaves a child with hand gun, but anti gun nuts would not care about 21 children.

Irresponsible gun owners. Unfortunately, there's a lot of them.

You think that way coz media only makes that a news.

Gun accident statistics have nothing to do with the media. Don't tell me why I think the way I do if you're going to be wrong about it.

I'm not anti-gun.

Who says I don't care about children dying in hot cars? What does that have to do with this story? Are you going to make the guns vs cars argument again, because that's already been shot down...

In 2010, the most recent year for which detailed Centers for Disease Control data is available, 129 people between the ages of 1 and 19 died in gun accidents.

caring about dead kids who have irresponsible gun owners as parents negates caring about all other sorts of dead kids. interesting.

Apparently you can only care about one thing at a time.

It's amazing how when I post a story like this, the usual suspects show up and tell me that this is all I care about.

Yet when one of them posts a "look, this gun was used for the right reason!" thread, they all high five each other.

Why do you hate babies that are left in hot cars to die?

Don't forget the starving kids. I hate them too.

One thing at a time.. anti gun is on.

Who is anti-gun? I'm not. If someone responsible and legally able wants to own one, all the power to them.

Denying that they get into the hands of the irresponsible by legal or illegal means, causing far too many accidents... is doing nobody any good.
